I saw that you guys are doing stancewars again. Well, here's my take. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but these guys are at least as much into cars as we are. Maybe even more so in an unhealthy kind of way. And at the very least they are spending their time and money on cars instead of chasing underage hookers or dealing meth to junior high kids. That counts as something right?

I maintain we should still all be friends and get along. We can all be enthusiasts, have different tastes, and all meet at Cars & Coffee if we want to. I'm not offended when someone slams an M3, I just think they look silly and I feel sorry for their car. But I'll still take a look at their car and chat with them about the perils of BMW ownership.
And yeah, most things are better than drugs and teenage hookers.

I never had an issue with them. I think the haters just hate to see a car that wont drive to it's full potential. With stance, you tend to break/rub a lot of stuff (tires and underbody parts rubbing, suspension parts failing etc...) depending at how low it is. But to me, it's beautiful!

For me it boils down to enthusiasts vs. elitists. An enthusiast can accept that we are all car guys, and can appreciate anyone wanting to work on, modify, or just learn about cars. An elitist takes an absolute view. ALL Stance is bad, ALL automatics are bad, ALL FWD cars are bad. I'm guilty of this from time to time, but in general I think I keep more of an enthusiast view vs. an elitist view.
However, when something/someone blatantly compromises the safety and drivability of the car, and said car is driven on public roads, then I'm not in favour of it. This viewpoint is not just reserved for Stance. It holds true to any genera of car modification. Someone bolting a NOS system onto their car without improving the rest of the fuel system and driveline, someone adding 28’s without upgrading the brakes, etc.
Stance can look fine, and it can be done without overly significant compromise to the drivability of the vehicle. In those cases, I can certainly appreciate it, and even applaud the owner (especially if he did the work himself). Just keep the car safe and drivable if you are going to have in on public roads.

You know, stance is not my scene. But a lot isn't.
And let's be honest these guys put a lot of effort and love into their cars.
I still think they are silly, but I agree, they are into their cars.
I'd rather have some kid being into stancing cars and (which they all eventually will) grow out of it and become a "grownup/practical/proper tuner" car lover than seeing people just not care about their 'appliance'.

I think you're exactly right.
I hate the mentality. You read articles complaining about the younger generation not being into cars. Then you see people bashing that younger generation for not being into cars the right way...the right way like you...
It's a stupid situation.

It's like anything else car related.....there is a "right" way and a wrong way to stance a car.......I think it looks pretty cool, but having said that-it's really not my bag.
