He has a very low budget (around 5000 z, $1620, 1200 EUR) and wants stoething he's going to be able to run for the next few years.
Do you see anything obviously wrong with this particular car (apart from its lack of power)?
It has a 70 hp 1.9 NA Diesel, and it has allegedly done 220 000 km since 1996. It's definitely not a speed demon ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ), but those motors are nearly indestructible and pretty economical. It also has AC, which is very important to my friend.
So, what do you think Oppo?

My uncle has a petrol 306 in base trim. Bought it new, still drives it today. If maintained properla they should last forever. There's not much to go wrong with Peugeots of that vintage.

My backup car is a 306 diesel. It has done almost 500.000 km. We're not bothering about visual damage (dents) anymore, but we'll keep up with regular maintenance and replace failed parts every now and then.
Bottom line: If you take decent care of them, they'll never fail you.

Are there receipts/service reports from the maintenance?

The engine is a bit agricultural (way back when I got my license my parents had one in their BX with 330k km) and the design of the sedan is a bit sedate, but there's not much to go wrong here. I've made it my habit to recommend the 306 to people with a small budget.

I had a 306, it was super comfy and a great drive too! (very neutral, doesn't feel like a front driver because of the rear bushes, until you go into a tight corner and the understeer racks up) electrics were shite though.

Unfortunately, we don't know. He's gonna go have a good look at the car tomorrow, and he'll ask the owner about the details. All we have to go on for now is the ad.
