In reading through C&D articles on the Focus ST, I couldn't help but notice an interesting difference between the two times they've tested the car. Their first time around ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) in June 2012, the car came back with a 0-60 of 6 seconds flat. when they tested it again in June 2013 for the 2015 Mk7 GTI comparo ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) while it was a european focus, (this shouldn't matter, it's a world car now) it came back with a 5.7 second 0-60. C&D said they thought it could've been "(a) the high-octane European fuel, (b) a particularly strong engine, (c) a thoroughly broken-in (7500 miles) example, or (d) all ofthe above." would wearing the engine in a bit really have that much of an effect? .3 seconds isn't negligible in most situations.

And what differences were those?

mea culpa, the tab key does not indent in this particular text box. all should be good now!

Parts machining can have a big impact on preformance. After the initial break in period the engine and trans should be quite compatible with each other and at the peak of their life. .3 seconds sounds like quite a bit so I think there is more at play here but it definitely is helped along by a break in period.

Hence the references to euro fuel and perhaps just a standout engine in that particular test vehicle. But I agree, .3 is quite the difference. The 2nd fastest recorded time other than this C&D one is a 5.9 put down by MT,( http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatc… )& .2 is still interesting.

When I first rebuilt my 300, which is, granted, a different beast, it was a whole lot faster after 500 miles. That and towing a car broke it in enough so that there was a notable difference in power.

Interesting, I might keep track of the stats each 500 miles, for science of course.
