Right up until a 928 parks next to one. The strangely rounded rear of a Panamera has grown on me, but I still wondered. Now I know; and it really does make sense. The Panamera is the first front engined Porsche car since the 928.

Never wondered. Made me hate the 928 even more.

Growing on me too. The other day I followed a new one to work, and was struck how the tail lights give the car a Boxster look.

The Panamera is just a stretched 911. As unattractive as I think it is, it's obvious where the looks came from, as this quick and dirty PS demonstrates:

Basically, take a 911, stretch it lengthways, then make it out of rubber and overinflate somewhat and you have a Panamera.

Pretty sure the 911 and Panamera are on totally different platforms.

I'm not sure what platform the Panamera's on. I was only talking about the styling, though.

There was something similar going on with the first-gen Cayenne as well, to my eye - a definite intention to try and stretch a 911 body over an SUV.

And the 928 was inspired by the AMC Pacer, so you can say the Panamera is the most expensive AMC ever.
