The Toyota MR2 is a m id-engine, r ear-drive, 2 -seater built from 1984 to 2007 and currently living directly in the sweet spot of freshly depreciated classics. The second generation (1991-1999) is new enough to still look good and be "fast," but old enough to be off the radar of the young punks who drop $25k on a BRZ/FRS/WRX or whatever it is that young punk kids spend their cash on (cheap used minivan, drum set, hair dye, piercings, WoW magic items- who knows?). Find this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for sale in Allentown, PA for $5,500 via craigslist. Tip from David K.
The MR2 was available from the factory with a 4-cylinder engine (2.2 liter naturally aspirated or 2.0 liter turbo) and 5-speed or auto gearbox. The seller of this MR2 has swapped a 3.0 liter Camry V6 and auto trans into the back and the resulting product looks surprisingly well done. The 3.0 liter V6 puts out 185 horsepower and 190 ft-lbs of torque - more than the 130 hp NA engine, but less than the 200 hp turbo.

Because that's exactly what a twitchy mr2 needs, more rear weight. Reminds me of the chevy v8 swapped 911's. CP.

ah the 1MZ-FE, known for 3 things:
1. being in a camry
2. being less powerful than advertised
3. bad valve guides

Well the 1mz was all aluminum and the outgoing 3/5S was a steel block, I'll bet its about sixes in terms of weight.

Probably the most boring MR2 in existance.

Not sure about the Mister2, but if you drop an LS into the back of a 996..well..you need to get new springs because the LS weighs a bit less than the Porsche flat-6.

Well...i admit it is no rotary engined beast...
It should be better than the stock 2.2 liter inline4 equipped with a slushbox.

True. Also, every time I see that little bitty pic of John Romijn-Stamos with a mullet I spit whatever I'm drinking all over my desk. Thanks.

Hmm then worthwhile swap to have an even power-band. But slush-box kind of kills it for me.

Really? Wow. Never realized the flat 6 was that much of a porker.... Hmm.

There are newer Toyota V6s that make closer to 300hp than below 2oo.
There are also Toyota-sourced transverse 6-speed manual transaxles, possibly even with limited slip differentials.
I was intrigued by a V6 swapped MR2, until I read the specs.
Hell, I'd rather cut a transmission tunnel into the rear trunk floor, and put a longitudinal Subaru drivetrain (EJ25 + 2WD 5-speed stick, FWD Subaru transaxle becomes RWD mid-engined transaxle) under this car, than an anemic V6 and an auto-transverse transaxle.

a fully dressed 1MZ is about 80-90lbs lighter than a fully dressed 3S-GTE.
torque curve on the V6 is nicer too, they're much easier to drive than a turbo MR2 with comparable power. no lag and no mid-corner boost induced snap oversteer.
