Saw this on the FP and was reminded of two things:
1. I need to tune my Celica stat and start beating Impreza GTs.
2. I need to get a GC8 Impreza WRX STI coupe.

Does the 99' impreza and the STI share the same body style?

yes, in the GC body range the only special edition was the 22B with its widened flares.
Only starting withe the GD body did the WRX and STI variants get different bodies.
now... there may have been underbody things different, additional reinforcing etc. I believe under the rear seats there was an add in support in some GC models.

I'll take a GC8 with the full 2.5 STi swap including the drivetrain, save for a JDM 6 speed with DCCD equipped. If you build it right you can have a huge torque monster with the shorter gearing which makes it destroy pretty much everything else. Granted these two examples are a reflection of their owners respective tastes, I would not have gone either of these routes with the swaps they did. Plus the bodywork they have done doesn't apeal to me either. I find it funny that they say the GC's are relatively cheap as I have noticed the price rising steadily.

Same, and the whole hellaflush thing doesn't go with a Subie (or any car, for that matter). All the same, it would be a classier option to have as an AWD, turbocharged 2 door car than a talon/laser/eclipse. I would love to have a small, nice-looking, swapped GC. If it's good enough for Bunta, it's good enough for me.

From grandma to the guy who couldn't afford gas: the cheap, low-mileage beater. In a way, it would be funny to stick a bunch of ricer paraphernalia on it and a fart can and make videos of people's reactions.

If you take the Gobstopper as a benchmark of how a GC8 should handle you will discover a decent ride height with softer springs and great dampers. What most of these tuner guy's don't understand is stiff and low doesn't always mean fast.
