The idea of this post is to have a place for us Oppos to share what they did to their DD, Track Car, Project Car, even Motorcycles. Sexy, yet SFW pic after the jump for your time.
If it catches on we can make it a weekly post.
This is not an original idea for a post by me, it happens on a forum I visit once and a while.

I didn't get anything done to the projects this weekend. I did however catalog and categorize all the parts I've pulled off the SPG, and in turn cleaned my workshop.
I still need to address the rear brakes on the truck. That one may lead to fiery death! I'll try to get to that tonight actually, if the weather keeps up.

Went romping through the country roads of eastern NH and western Maine on Sunday in the Cooper. Got sideways on some dirt roads, for great justice.

Nothing actually to the Benz on the weekend, but shortly before the weekend finished a coolant check, oil change, and A-arm+ball joint job on the left front. Also fixed a sway bar mount, but that was around Monday some time.

I'm currently charging up both banks of batteries in the van. I don't think my daily 14 mile round trip is enough to charge them both up.

Rain-Xed the glass and replaced a wiper blade. Also accidentally found out that Rain-X easily removes any dried wax from glass!

Took the Neon for a nice long drive with the lady. Visited a farm with intentions of pumpkin picking, but none looked good, so we shared a funnel cake and then drove home.
Had a little fun in the back roads, but not enough really. Too much traffic in most areas to really have fun. One farm in a less than strategic location caused an easy 4 miles of backed up traffic.
Car is about due for an oil change soon, at least before it gets really cold.

I'll start since this was my idea. Got a lot done over the weekend, mainly since I was off Friday. Main thing I did was refurbish the hinge on the swing out spare tire carrier for my Land Cruiser. Had to take the hinge apart, de-rust it, paint it, rebuild it, and bolt it back on. Then I installed a new spare tire carrier onto the door so it could accommodate the oversized spare. It's been the first time I had the spare on the car since I got it a few months ago.

After:
Note: This has got to the worst license plate ever. Last time I order a plate through the mail.

You're a good brother. I bought my little bro a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass with ripped seats haha.

At least it's ready for next weekend, nice clean shop to start working and get all dirty again. I thought I was the only person that cataloged my parts. Good to know there is someone else out there as crazy as me! When I got my Toyota, it came with the whole back of the truck filled with parts. First thing I did was ID and catalog them all and get them stored away for future need. Was even able to sell a few that I knew I wouldn't need and offset the purchase a little bit. Who am I kidding, actually I used the money to buy parts for my other cars... lol.

Went autocrossing, and noticed the brakes aren't up to par. They felt strange after 6 or so runs. So I am going to be doing something about that soon.

Hell yeah, I love to (have to) catalog!
Since Saab is dead and parts are scarce as fuck, I'm not taking any chances at losing even a single hose clamp.

just a lot of persistence in looking and haggling like a mofo lol. At the end of the battle it ended up at $4500 with TT&L. super clean with 120K on ze ticker.

Nice, getting ready for the rainy season. Good to know that about Rain-X, wonder if it will take off the residue of a sticker that a PO put on my truck?
I washed the windows in my older cars this weekend too, the glass is old enough I figured I could use Windex instead of auto glass cleaner. Probably should have researched that a little more before I did it, but it worked great.

If it got you ready for weekend driving then it counts. Sounds like it was a busy day getting all that done. I love days like that where you can just work on your car all aday and actually finish some jobs, it's very rewarding. I'm planning on doing some of that stuff next weekend (coolant and oil - engine, trans, diffs) this next weekend. Just need to load up on the supplies for that job during the week so I'm all set to go for Saturday.

Wow, you actually got a really good deal on that congrats. I bought the Cutlass in the hood of Indianapolis for $2500, but it has 110k miles and one of the cleanest engine bays I've ever seen. Did you go on Autotrader or Craigslist? We used CL because it had higher volumes of lower-priced cars, but we did see some good deals like the one you got.

How many batteries you got in there? Is it an electric van?

That's a nice first car! Fun and safe at the same time. My first car was a 1986 Peugout 505STI, the complete opposite of fun and safe. Think it had a 30MPH top speed and it caught on fire twice.

That's a good father-in-law to have if he makes you guys paella. I've done it a few times at home on the stove top and oven, but never on a fire pit. I'll have to try that one day. Every time I eat it it reminds be of being in Spain at the waterfront. The black Rice paella made from cuttlefish ink was one of my favorites.

Looking good! Isn't that the Daily Turismo mustang from recently? Remember seeing that in the daily e-mail and reading on here that someone bought it.

You should also try Goo-gone for the residue, it's great for adhesive removal

LOL, no.
I have a second battery that powers radio/amp/12v outlets/interior lighting.
It's connected to the main battery by this slick little marine combiner. Whenever battery 1 gets 13.3v, it closes and charges the second battery. Less than 13.3, it separates them.
I don't think my 14 mile round trip to work is long enough to charge both batteries day after day. Just topping it up.

It's amazing how much of a pain it is to change a belt, isn't it? Sounds like such an easy thing, then it takes you 2 hours and you busted every knuckle in the process.
What kind of car were you working on? Some are a lot easier then others, really depends on how much empty space there between the front of the engine and the radiator housing.

CL, i was looking at them on "by owner" but i didn't want to deal with spending a million years with paperwork and in line at the DPS so i switched to "by dealer". I found it at a cash only place that had nice stuff. It was advertised at $4995 but he sold it for $3995 plus TT&L. I rather them deal with the paperwork lol :]

Tried to figure out why my window is jammed (bad regulator) and find that damn clicking in my PS side rear wheel.

Fair enough. We went the opposite way actually, by-owner only because whenever I called a dealer they would either try to up-sell me or were very shady about their cars (buy here, pay here, cash only, etc.). I do agree with you, though, paperwork wasn't something we enjoyed sorting out. Plus it was a one-owner car, a lot of the places I called only had back to the previous owner, omitting maintenance records and such of the owners before that. Either way sounds we both got decent cars, which is always a plus :)

I have a little bottle of that from a home project. Was thinking of using it for the sticker residue, but wasn't sure if it would affect the glass in some way. I'll give it a shot though, can't be worse then the sticker crap on there.

yeah thats true. the carfax thing had it as a 1 owner trade in. Dealer stamped maintenance and recall done at a dealer somewhere by Lafayette La. Cool stuff on both ends, lets just hope they take care of them

That looks delicious! What time should the wife and I be over for dinner? We can bring a nice Rioja to go with that Paella.

I wonder if the existing Saab market is big enough that someone will start reproducing parts to meet the demand?
![]() 10/14/2013 at 14:38 |

Doubtful.
One thing I am looking forward to is native 3D printing support in Windows 8.1. I've already talked the wife into purchasing a 3D printer and I could probably use it to replicate some of the old, deteriorated, plastic components that cannot be found any more.

What was the brand name of the "combiner" you used? I have looked into something similar to charge the dual batteries in my Toyota. I have them isolated to keep the secondary battery (for a winch) from draining the main battery. I've seen a slick set-up from a company called National Luna (I think it's Australia or South Africa based) that is exactly like you described, little solenoid that opens up at 13.3 and charges both batteries, anything less then that and it isolates the main from the secondary. It was fricking pricey though, looking for something a little more DIY.

You have high temp brake fluid in there? Was looking into some track days and all they required, aside from helmet, was high boiling point brake fluid. Think it's boiling point is around 600F.
![]() 10/14/2013 at 14:51 |

Nope, still have stock brake fluid. I am probably going to change it out along with pads. No need for anything more powerful right now.

Good idea. You could sell some of the ones you perfect to other Saab owners and offset the cost of buying the 3D printer.

A 3G Acura TL. Took me 6 hours and I have indeed busted every knuckle. There is almost zero space to work. It was probably the most frustrating thing I have ever done and I have changed a lot of belts in my life.

On Saturday I jumped my 2.5RS/C at 80MPH and broke the exhaust, driver's fog light, and idler pulley for the supercharger.
On Sunday I fixed all of those things.

I went to replace my shift knob that's coming apart, but then I find that the leather from the boot attaches to the knob. Even though I don't know what I'll to with the old knob, I didn't want to cut the leather apart so it was off to buy a new boot as well. Hopefully I'll have it by this weekend.
Did manage to replace the sagging trunk struts though. Next weekend is time for an oil change and fuel tank breather valve replacement.

I soooo wish someone was recording... The best I have is the image of my AC condenser full of dirt, and the scuffs on the bumper.
