Couldn't resist, the picture is funny, and I'm sick of crybaby politicians.

No arms or legs for anybody...a pretty decent estimate of the cost.

(I'm familiar with the series.)

I guess the replies prove the point of the image. As an outsider I find it very interesting how extremely polarized anything even remotely political is in the US.

Two big party system, most people forgot about the middle way, the smart way, the libertarian way.

There is more than one middle way as well

I just find it interesting people see everything as black or white, like there are no shades of gray. People also don't seem to be able to comment on a realistic portrayal of the other's point of few, the amount of straw men being slain is astonishing. I don't want to pin this just on Americans though, it's a wide spread problem that's all too familiar where I'm from as well. It just seems to be worse in the US, possibly because the two party system you already mentioned.

I'll refrain from my opinion about libertarianism.

Politics are just as polarizing here as they are anywhere else, but I think a big reason why the replies here in particular are generally negative is because 1) like you said, an unrealistic portrayal of the opposing side, and 2) we don't want to see Oppo turn into a political warzone.

Also, if Lightning Zone supports subsidized healthcare and libertarianism, he clearly is too ill informed to have an opinion on either.

I'm not for subsidized anything, but I could choose between subsidized religion(as religious organizations don't pay taxes), subsidized corn(to keep corn syrup cheap and farmers backwards minded and unwilling to try better plants) and subsidized healthcare(that directs more money towards the healthcare system, as many of those will benefit from it are young and don't require too much from the system), I'd have the former.

Well conservatives are crazy, they will even go as low as killing doctors and bombing clinics, democrats are closer to the green party, than they ever been, the rest is for the historians and sociologists to analyze.

As for the libertarian movement, look in your backyard, legalized prostitution, legalized easy drugs, legalized same sex marriages, good level of separation of church and state and more, no wonder conservatives hate the Netherlands. However, even if those liberties are great, they are mostly moral/personal liberties. The libertarians want to take those, and add economical liberties, imagine Holland but with more guns, less taxes.

The problem I've got with Libertarianism is that it sounds nice but that it's too utopian. It expects rational and capable citizenry, which isn't in line with human nature. It's too anarchistic to my liking. There are no safety nets for those who are willing to improve themselves but can't properly because of insufficient funds/intelligence/physique/health/friends/whatever, they have to depend on the whims of charity. I'd like to live in a society where everybody has realistic access to proper healthcare and a proper higher education without having to gather significant debt. A society where I don't have to worry about paying my rent/mortgage or depleting my savings in the first few months after I've lost my job and am struggling to find a new one. A society where I don't have to worry about the aggressive crazy neighbor or the (rare) burglar having a firearm on him. This isn't offered by Libertarianism, quite the contrary. For all this I gladly pay more taxes and not have the right to carry whatever arms I'd like. (I can get a hunting license+rifle though. Or a baseball bat). Gladly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing European economic systems, in all their diversity, are perfect. By no means. But if I'd have to choose I most certainly prefer this to Libertarianism. But that's just my personal preference, I'm not saying you're wrong in preferring what you prefer.
