I have a bad habit of finding a cigar I like and then smoking only that kind of cigar until I get tired of it. I have a goal of trying to push myself to try other cigars more often, and last week I did that. I went for an Asylum 13 double toro (6x60), which happens to be cheaper than my current favorite, My Uzi Weighs A Ton.

I had actually wanted to try an Asylum 13 Fifty, which is a standard 5x50 robusto, but the place I normally go to for my morning stick doesn't carry them in that size. They do have the more ridiculous sizes, though. There's the Ogre, which is 7x70 with a barber-pole style wrapper, a 7x70 that has a standard Habano wrapper, and the Gordo which is 6x80 (!). Those are crazy. A lot of my fellow cigar smokers dislike 60 RG cigars as it is, so I can't imagine these big beasts are that popular. As it is, 60 is usually as far as I will take it, since anything larger tends to have issues staying lit, or the wrapper doesn't burn right, or you look like you're trying to smoke a baseball bat, etc.

So, I tried the Sixty. Double toro seems to be my favorite vitola, so we're good there. I'm not very good at describing flavors and such, I just know what I like, and I like these a lot. They are described as medium-full bodied, but I'm a lightweight when it comes to drugs/alcohol/nicotine and these didn't make my head spin or anything, they're just a good cigar at a decent price. I'm getting ready to head out for a nice relaxing drive in the mountains, and one or two of these will be making the trip with me.

I saw the lead pic and I was automatically going to recommend My Uzi Weighs a Ton.

I love those things dearly, but they cost too much.

Those are a bit big for my britches. My daily smoke is the Punch London Club maduro, which weighs in at 5x40. I've been smoking them for years, and haven't tired of them. I moved to the London Club from the Rothschild because I wanted something a little smaller since I smoke way too much. Today in Austin it's cloudy and rainy, my favorite day to sit on the porch and smoke. So I'm looking forward to it.

I keep meaning to try that, I know you've mentioned it to me before. I'm going to make it a point to look for them. I'm going to see if I can convince the shop I go to every morning to carry the Asylum 13 Fifty. A double toro is a bit too big for my commute.

I'm not sure they're "world class" or anything. It's just what I like, so for me, it's a good cigar. They're just over $2 each, which makes it better as a daily smoke!

Well, I do tend to like anything that has 'maduro' in the name.

Ashton VSG or Rocky Patel Vintage 1990. Both are my go-to cigars if I don't have a cuban Cohiba or an Opus X.

I'm not big on their flavored stuff, but everything else I've had from them has been good.

Ashton VSG's are fantastic. It knocked me on my ass, though. I need to get my hands on an Opus X, I've heard lots of good things about them.

Agreed. The London Club comes in a natural wrapper, and I think it's really rank. My wife, who's not that crazy about my cigar vice, complains about how they smell, but doesn't seem to mind the maduro. And when momma's happy, everybody's happy.

I'm a fan of the flavored stuff haha. Give me a tasty cigar and a lowball with booze and I'm happy.

YES. I LOVE the Schitzo's. I can get them for less than $2 a stick! In Cook County! They're by far my favorite budget smoke. Beyond that, I'm a CAO and Alec Bradley guy. I love the CAO SOL, Concert it probably my current fave, and the new Flathead is a fantastic smoke(I also like the Brazilia when I'm looking for a really bold smoke). AB Prensado and the Black Markets are great too.

I've heard good things about MUWAT's, mayhaps I'll give it a shot this weekend...

Just a fair warning: Opus X is a pretty strong cigar. Also, always buy the sticks from a cigar store that has a Fuente Fuente account. The cigar bars will sell them for upwards of $75-$100, when a store that gets the shipments in directly from Fuente will charge about $15.

I really like Asylum's products. Similar in profile/body are the new Leccia Tobacco Cigars from my buddy Sam Leccia (of Nub and Cain fame), if you haven't tried them I'd highly suggest the white label.
