I'm definitely glad Scion is sold here in Europe. Good riddance! Toyota needs sports cars to fix their beige image, and selling their best sports car in 10 years (not counting any Lexus alphabet soup nonsense crap) under another brand name is just stupid.

Scion is not hip or cool, it's stupid.

Isn't that just below list price for a new one? It also bugs me that they don't list the mileage on the car. . .

I see the same thing happening here in Belgium, too.

If you want a cheap GT-86, you have to buy it new (appx. eq. to 27.8k$ before tax) Used ones are more expensive.

It probably comes down to the fact that the people who sell them now paid them full price a year ago and want a low depreciation, whereas at the same time dealers now adjusted their prices down a little bit.

I think it has something to do with the weird selling agreement toyota and subaru have with the FR-S/BRZ, but I could be wrong

I hope you aren't calling what Lexus makes stupid, but other than that I agree, scion should have been merged into Toyota a while ago, but I guess it still serves it's purpose as a experimental sales division in the US.

I think Toyotas should be badged as Toyotas, not some made-up brand just because they've dragged their own brand down too far with all the beigeness. I find that I mostly dislike Lexus because their design language is getting more and more awful while Toyota's current design language at least looks alright.

well if you believe the Wikipedia article, scion was just for experimental sales and marketing tactics, not to appeal to young buyers. but anyway, I now think it really doesn't serve a purpose anymore (plus their ads are kind of stupid in my opinion)

That's surprising. Usually Carmax are Nazis about putting cars back to stock and fixing every little damn thing.

Woops, didn't see my typo until now, Scion isn't* sold here of course...

Don't think so- they are sold as Toyotas elsewhere. I think Toyota was trying to prop bu the dying Scion brand with at least one in demand car.

This is correct here too- especially on the lower production BRZ. Thanks to a great dealer I got a new one for close to what I see used ones going for. Better deals on the used FR-S can be found (much more of those made) but still holding value.

Need to beware of "tasteful mods" on the used market. Some sellers dumping experiments went wrong or headscratchingly bad decisions.

I disagree. I think Lexus's design is bold, interesting, and quite good looking. It makes the German offerings look safe, conservative, and a bit "beige".

The interior says SCION but the exterior says TOYOTA?!?!?!

I don't know what's right anymore.

I like that they're trying to be bold and different, but they could be bold and different in other ways if you ask me. The Predator mouth grille is ugly as hell for instance.

I think you replied to the wrong post, but I'm just going to say that I think you are right in the fact that they are dying.

I don't think the selling agreement between Toyota and Subaru would affect the used pricing and the fact that miles are not listed on the Carmax website. As far as I know that only affects the availability of new BRZ's being available to the public. It still seems odd that someone would go for a used FRS to save a few and get a car that is a year old and versus spending the extra ~$4,000 to get a new car with 0 miles on it. It just seems like a bad buy to me. But then again I don't like first year model runs anyway's I'd rather wait for the second or third year a car is out as all the first year models niggles are worked out in the next years. That logic is coming from working as a tech and seeing how many issues I had to fix that were common only to the first years production.
