I NEED HELP!! The story is that one of the last owners of my great majestic Rx-7 had a hideous hole cut into the roof and filled with a horrid raised glass.. probably the same owner who introduced the car to electric blue wire covers, spray painted windshield wipers, GTR badges and, best of all, a pole to the quarter panel.... so i need to redo my headliner after fixing the sunroof itself
So, as the love of my life is finally coming together, and its therapeutic to spent obscene amounts of time on pointless details. So im going to wrap my headliner and my roll cage with blue perforated vinyl!
I need advice though, where can i buy such a material, reliably. as well as does the roll cage make any sense, can i just glue it, or do i need to stitch it.. if i need to stitch it it might not be a big deal.. but i just need to know if anyone knows whats involved. Its a pretty small cage so im not concerned. im going witha white and blue theme (Mazda racing color) but im trying not to overdo it. the cage is already blue, but the leather muight be nice and the headliner need to be redone.. which brings me to
How do i repair a hole in my head liner!?!?!? lol cardboard?

A craft store like Michael's or Joe Ann's Fabrics should have the material. As well as something to use as a backing that would be a good alternative to cardboard. A spray on fabric glue would be easier than stitching the roll cage.

Do you have a professional interior fitter anywhere near you? If I were you, and they didn't charge the earth, the headliner's one job I'd happily pay someone else to do.

I am exceptionally broke.. i know of one, but i want to try it myself first

Yea i had been thinking about that.. i read a few articles on stitching up roll cages.. i couldn't simply spray the adhesive i use on the headliner onto the cage and wrap it right? There would be the random ends..

Yeah, I'm not saying that because I'm so rich... :)
Good luck with it. From what I've seen on car resto programmes, it's the kind of fiddly, annoying, impossible to get right job that would drive me absolutely insane.
I also have a feeling that doing it yourself may not be that much cheaper than paying someone to do it. If that's wrong, then obviously it's worth having a go yourself. But I suspect to a specialist it's a quick job they have all the tools and supplies for, so reasonably cheap, whereas you'll spend a fair chunk of change on tools to use once, glue you don't need all of, and that kind of thing - and at the end of the day, the pro will have done a better job.
Then again, I'm good at rationalising away jobs I don't want to do...
Still, I'd have thought it's worth asking for a price. That, at least, doesn't cost anything :)

If you do have a go yourself, make sure you give us a good write-up :)

I've done a headliner or two over the years but never a roll cage. I would imagine that you could just cut and pre-fit the fabric, then apply the adhesive at the seams.

Hm, alright, is it really just spay adhesive and place the fabric over the headliner and maybe staple it on the back side, or is there more?

That's pretty much it. I glued the backside to versus using staples. But I also had my headliner out of the vehicle when I did it. The first car was an 83 S10 Blazer so getting the headliner in and out was pretty simple. The second was a 280ZX. Hatchbacks are easy. I don't remember what I did for the Regal I helped a friend with.

Alright, ill probabaly use glue too.. the headliner has to come out to fix the roof anyway
