In the states, too. I think the only reason the gov allowed it here is because it normally resides at a museum, but it was on a cross country road trip when the A/C went out, so they took it to a local garage. Pretty odd car

Fiat Multipla. Which, by most accounts, is ugly, although it's interesting.

It's also the perfect car for the elderly!

That was the best Top Gear in ages.

I think most Opponauts have seen these, if only by virtue of Top Gear.

I freaked out when the garage said they had one of these in on facebook. I had to go see it.

I actually think this is a pretty practical car. Along with the Renault Avantime.

3 bucket seats in the front and rear certainly is practical

Did I get Kinja'd? My response to you isn't showing up. Anyway, if you can't see it it said "I meant in real life, yo

AHA! Different story, then. How's it look in real life?

Like a bus was dropped onto a Neon. Pretty funky. The interior is really weird too

The "They couldn't give these away" museum. Can pick them up in UK for £500.

I sometimes forget how much the 25 year rule makes cars rare/obscure for no reason.

That's no more than 15 years old, how'd they manage to import it in?!

I never realized how much the front end looks in front of the cowl like a 1g Neon. Strange coincidence? I think NOT! National Enquirer has the full story on page 34

The "show and display" clause in the law allows it, I think, because it's usually at a museum

£500? You'd be hard pushed to find a runner for that money. Multiplas go for a fair bit more than other Fiats of the same age. Half-decent ones start at around £800, and for that money you can get a BMW 316/318 of about the same age, in similarish condition.
The Multipla's a lot more popular than you imagine. Whether that's because of the looks or despite them is another matter...

Maybe it depends where you are, I never see them anymore. I literally can't think of the last time I saw one. Did find a few on autotrader and ebay for under £700, although they did have 100k+ on them, and you'd be silly not to negotiate that down.
Not sure where you'd find a half decent BMW E46 for £800, i'd certainly like to know.

Mostly end of line E36s for that money, but the odd E46 as well - have a look on Autotrader.
Of course a Multipla isn't directly comparable to a 3-series, but they're both examples of cars that go for a bit more than other, less attractive models of similar age and in roughly the same condition. Obviously the attractions are different, but the Multipla's unique enough to retain a small niche. It certainly attracts slightly better prices than the Citroen Berlingo or Renault Kangoo, and way better than stuff like the Xsara Picasso and Megane Scenic it was competing with when new.
