That would be scary. Bimmers are already getting softer by the day to appeal to Lexus/Merc buyers. If they partnered up on mainstream luxury sedan models the cars would become even more similar and the only difference would be the badge.

I mean, last I heard, they were fairly even...

Reliability on most new cars anymore is splitting hairs anyway. The difference between most reliable (Porsche) and least (VW) is maybe one problem per year.

But then again, my parents drive a Land Rover with 100,000 miles and no issues thus far, so maybe I can't comment on statistics.

More like LS ans 7 Series, a flagship is expensive to develop and sells in small numbers. The possibilities are endless, if you think about it, but for now, nobody can say if it will happen or not.
