It's Jalopnik's version of Pics or it didn't happen.
I think there's a backstory and I read it once but I don't remember it at the moment.

SR20 rule = Jalopnik version of Pics or it Didn't Happen.
Also of note: GTFAC = GTFO.

Picture evidence of something you claim to have seen.
I guess it is in response to an old poster with big claims/little proof.

SR20 claimed to on an Esprit, didn't and it caused all sorts of drama.

A long time ago there was a commenter named SR20, he stated he owned a lotus but the community demanded pics. He couldn't post pics because he didn't own said car. From that point on "pics or it didn't happen" became "sr20"

I think (I could be wrong) some guy whos username was (something)sr20, claimed he was putting a sr20 in an Esprit.

Man I hate people who do that...What do you have to gain by telling anonymous nobodies on the internet that you have something you don't?
By the way, I have 10k rare supercars in my collection scattered across the country. No SR20, of course.

You've been around here long, I figured you'd know. As the others have said, pics or it didn't happen.
Commenter by the name of SR20 claimed to have owned a Lotus Esprit, and even gotten out of a speeding ticket when the cop asked "hey, you're SR20 from Jalopnik". None of it was true.
What I find ironic is that there's rarely any pics of SR20s:

Yeas, and I trail brake with my penis because I'm too busy double clutching with the left foot. Also, no SR20.

You too? Hey, how do you deal with the calluses that form on the head? My supermodel wife and pornstar girlfriend claim that it hurts their tender lady insides when we're doin' the nasty, but just slicing it off seems unthinkable for obvious reasons.
Deeeefinitely no SR20 on that one.

Bandit's right, that's what it means on Jalopnik. In the meatspace, it's a bitchin' Nissan motor.

There was a member named SR20 who claimed to have a Lotus Esprit and made up a story that got featured on Jalopnik , but he was then called out for lying about it. He owned up to it, and it's basically become our spin on "Pics or it didn't happen".
He popped back in to say hi some time ago.

Man, I'm glad someone asked this. I knew that SR20 meant pictures but didn't know the backstory.
Thanks PS9

Just had to google this. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why people keep bringing up a Nissan engine. Now it makes sense.
Back in my Motor Trend Forum days, a guy by the name if Tonavi claimed he had a 300k+ mile Toyota Yaris. I think he claimed it was a 2008 and this was around 2010 so we couldn't figure out how he accumulated so many miles in such a short time. Apparently he hsd to do alot of driving for work. He was a general douche anyway, and when we all tired of his attitude we demanded odometer pics. He gave us these stories about how he had cancer and while he was healthy enough to post on a forum, he couldn't access his camera to get the picture. Sure enough, the picture he eventually showed us was traced back to another forum and a totally different person. He was finally ousted as the liar he truly was.
I never understood the need to lie about your life on the internet. I've always felt thaf the anonymity allows me to be more honest rather than making me want to create a fictitious life for myself.
