Exchanged the broken welder for a presumably working one. I hate harbor freight.

Why not just buy an old lincoln AC/DC stick welder?

I was going to say, his first mistake is buying a welder from Harbor Freight. Hand tools and stuff are fine, but welders, no.

I found one I wanted to buy, but was told "no, it's too old. I'm not allowing you to buy that." I don't understand parents.

The funny thing is, the HF one is probably more dangerous than the "old" one.

And the old ones are built like tanks and work for decades.

I know, that's what I told them. My school where I learned to weld uses 40 year old Lincolns.

I love Harbor Freight, but I don't buy any items that are worth over $50 there...

Yea get used to MIG and then try up TIG it is so eerily quiet and calm and there is no sparks or balls of molten metal burning your skin. IT'S LUXURIOUS!
