I almost rear-ended someone today, and it was all my fault. All right, I didn't come that close, but I had to brake harder than I usually do. Why? Well I saw one of these for the first time, in white, with body-color trim. So I'm a dumbass for not paying attention to where I was going, but can you really blame me for checking out DAT ASS?
It looks around 100x better in person.

They are very nice cars.
It's okay, I did the same recently because I was talking to someone in the back seat and A GENTLEMAN MAKES EYE CONTACT, DAMMIT.

Getting an All Road with painted arches is like having Kate Beckinsale in your bed and then going on the couch to watch porn.

Not sure if I can agree with you there... However(!) I have not seen one of these with the normal arches, and I was a big fan of the previous allroad. So we shall see.

Yea, I feel bad for not knowing they made them much more sexy. Till I was looking at them today, didn't even realize it was allroad at first.

Even though I've drooled over the pictures for a while, I still had that moment today. Sort of a "hey that A6 wagon looks really - oh hey it's the allroad!"

I really do want to like these..especially with the painted arches but...
...and no I don't want to buy it then lower it. :P

See, I like the ride height. If I wanted a lower wagon, I'd choose one of the normal Avants.

I'd accept it if it encouraged more manufacturers to import wagons as "crossover wagons" with higher ride height but no plastic body cladding so the aftermarket can lower them and make them look like normal wagons. Better than no wagons at all! :P

Problem is no Avants available in the US :(

Right. So I went to refresh my memory on the current lineup, and I remembered there are no Avants there. Also something weird I noticed is that my A3 is not on that page. Website bug? GUYS???
:(

2012 was the last Avant in the US (A4) and the A3 5-door is out now to be replaced by the new A3 sedan.

I was only excited about the A3 sedan because I didn't realize they were killing the 5-door... I guess now I can stop trying to configure a Quattro/TDI/Manual version of the A3 and getting real pissed off.
![]() 10/12/2013 at 20:55 |

And here is the worst part about the A3 when it was sold here you could not get a quattro TDI, let alone a manual, Quattro TDI nor could you get a 2.0T Quattro with a manual. This is all because the A3 is basically a rebadged Golf/GTI. Fun fact one of the most expensive cars to insure is the GA3; one of the least expensive cars to insure is the A3. Same damn car, but very different diver profiles. So the moral of the story is if you are going to get a used GTI, save money on the insurance by getting a used A3.

GA3 is GTI stupid autocorrect
![]() 10/13/2013 at 03:45 |

Yes, that's why I got frustrated. If I get an Audi, it's going to be a Quattro. And a manual, unless it's primarily my wife's car.
Insurance is the biggest reason I won't even think about getting a "new" car for a long time. Really puts a downer on the whole situation.

A converted wagon is not a real wagon. It's such a shame too because wagons are so great.
This car is a perfect example at how stupid Americans can be. A regular A4 Avant couldn't sell even if they tried to give it away, but once they raised the ride height a tad and added some rugged looking plastic to it, people buy them in droves now. Why are Americans so dumb? It makes me sad.

That they don't sell here in the US.

They stopped selling the A3 here because they have a new one coming out but it will only be sold as a sedan here in the US so it can compete with the Mercedes CLA and the rumored BMW FWD.

Right, that's what Automatch said. I am le disappoint.

Read Dan Neil's review and you'll quickly move on. It's a very sad, tragic story, keep tissues handy.

Nothing too unexpected there, for a wagon that's clearly replacing the A4 Avant. Hasn't changed my mind a bit. However, I still haven't driven it. I'll still be a lot more hung up on things like not having a manual option than little differences in the ride and the tires it comes on, coming from someone who hasn't driven the real Allroad.
![]() 10/14/2013 at 02:42 |

Oh yeah for sure, but I just think it's sad that it's really not All Road capable (see what I did there?)
Like I told Automatch though I think the Allroad is a big indicator at how stupid Americans are. The previous A4 Avant, a real wagon, couldn't sell at all, but as soon as the ride was jacked up a little and rugged looking plastic was added then people showed up in droves to buy them, it's sad the type of people that surround us.

Yeah I saw that, he said everything I was going to say and I saw it after I commented.
I didn't know about the A3 though until I went on the website to research one for myself, because I figured it's a clone of the Golf TDI, which I own and love, so why not just get a more luxurious version, but when it didn't show up and I found out why, I cried a little.
