I'm just over here like "that shoulda been the new IS"

Who says it won't be? It that happens, it wouldn't be the first time Toyota badge engineered two cars from one.

The new IS just dropped. And they've German-fied it for the last two generations. I don't know if they have it in them to do a full 180 and go back to the first gen for inspiration.

CLA rival, not C Class rival. The more RWD options, the better.

Well. If they're going to stretch it and do all of the structural work, it seems like it'll be more C-class than CLA.

Toyota - 166.9in
Mercedes - 182.3 in
86 sedan will grow with about 10cm(3.9in), this means the Toyota will have 170.8in, still smaller than the CLA, and even if it was bigger, it's made for those who don't want all the techy details of a IS, not to mention the bigger price tag.

You think the price won't skyrocket once they start adding all of the hybrid bits?
And the first IS300 was only 173 inches. So that's not that far off.

Well, how in Karl's name did the Merc end up, being so long?
Hybrid system would be optional, and without knowing what kind of system is, it's hard to tell. They could add more gear on the Lexus, to make it cost more, and the IS has no boxer, or a manual.

No it doesn't, but the first gen gen had an I6 and 5-speed manual (both out of the N/A Supra).

I doubt that Toyota is concerned with used gen. 1 IS, stealing sales from the 86 sedan.

You missed the point. I'm saying the first gen had soul. It was a sports car with lux ambitions. And the last two have been sad shadows of that original idea and mission.

I did, but I moved it from the Lexus, on the Toyota. Lexus is just doing what everybody else is doing, and what the costumers want them to do.

They've tried to be BMW clones, and fail at every turn. They're never going to be German enough for the Euro-snob crowd.
The sales numbers of the last gen IS just prove what I'm saying. Lexus needs to get off its hump, quit playing it safe, and do something crazy LIKE making a sports-car based IS again.
