I spent a good part of today's afternoon pressing and whacking onto one of these weird screws. I need/want to disassemble it so I can take a rusted piece, to give it a nice clean and then look and see what's what after about 50 years of cycling-service
I unscrewed the nut, put some oil all over it and tried a number of different approaches, but it wasn't going to be easy, the un-threaded part of those screws (most of it) is actually wedge-shaped and the screws were put in place by a press, all those years ago.
I poured some more lubricant on it but it wouldn't get loose, no matter what.
I'll see tomorrow morning, maybe a night soaked in oil will make it a little easier.
Any ideas?
I'm following what's written in this page: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ...more or less.

Just read that Sheldon brown page. Sounds painful. Good luck. I would skip to the torch if I were you.

Can you try this? Home made press.

I have experienced this. I believe penetrating oil eventually did the trick. In other, similar cases I have used a small propane torch- cheaply purchased at Home Depot ~$20.

Or this but you probably looked at these...

Totally, in the case I'm not able to punch it out in a safe way I won't try again, at least it works fine now. Getting new cotters could be a problem.

I tried with a big C-clamp and also with a hammer, but it resisted.
I don't have a press and good, non-Chinese one cost quite a lot of money.
I might go look for some old English ones at a flea-market on Sunday.

I will let it penetrate and try again tomorrow.

It is often mentioned on the MG forums (where God knows we know about rusted/seized fasteners...) that a mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone is an unbeatable penetrating oil...YMMV as I've not tried it.

Sounds great, but getting Automatic-tranny fluid in Uruguay could be a little hard as vehicles with an automatic transmission are uncommon.
I'll keep it in mind, maybe I come across some garage and they have it, you never know.
