I want interstates, like they have in the US!

You forgot to show the semi in front of you driving 10 miles below the speed limit.

I like highways, a lot, because they're usually nice, open, abandoned, and free out here. Interstates are usually crowded with idiot drivers who have no idea what they're doing, and with cops around every corner ignoring them and just looking for speeders.

Same highway (Ontario 17), but this was about 500 miles earlier, just before we stopped for the night. Hard to get around this in a passing lane with a truck coming the other way!

These 2-lane highways are dangerous, obviously, and back when they were designed/built, there weren't as many people and cars. Many are based on old lot lines or pioneer roads from 200 years ago, or early highways built in the 1920's or 30's.

One could make them a divided 4-lane, but then the people living in the area would not be able to cross the road to see their neighbor, or would have to detour. Or build them some expensive series of overpasses (if you can find the land). But if you slow it down with lights and other measures, it improves safety but probably makes traffic even slower.

And that's assuming you can find the money to do this kind of stuff. So I don't know what the answer is, and I suspect neither do our various levels of government.

This is the Trans Canada highway. Did you know? Eastern Canada and Western Canada have only 1 two lane road connecting them!

But you guys get the awesome cars 10 years before us. It's only fair...

So all this time, the "rural roads" that I'd look out of the windows to enjoy the view of is a cross-country highway?!?!? Holy hell, Canada. Couple this with Toronto traffic and things will only go downhill.

Yes. Through Ontario the trans canada highway is 4 lanes for about 250 kms and 2 lanes for about 1,950 kms. It`s nearly 26 hours from end to end!!

The road in Toronto is the 401, and it is not a national highway but a provincial one.
