Merging onto I35 from ben White this morning, a car bolts around the pack, drives down the shoulder on the right, cuts me off, then darts across the solid yellow "do not cross this" bermuda triangle where the ramp incline levels with the interstate. Hard to describe.
ANYWAY, there was a cop right behind me who witnessed the whole thing, and I see him suddenly dart over, cut off a semi, and get in behind the Offender. Alright, I think.
But no. He just decided to pull a dick move too, and in the process blocked me all the way down the entry lane until I had to come to a complete stop and wait for someone to leave a gap for me to enter.
Goddamn I hate Austin traffic. The 11th biggest city in the US with the 7th worst traffic.

Good thing you didn't beep. The cop might have shot you. Austin's Finest.

I am so fucking grateful that we moved our offices Downtown from 183 and Burnet. I live in Barton Hills, and had to choose between the MOPAC bottleneck parade, or 35 parking lot. You know what? No matter which way you go it takes an hour. Actually, every way took an hour, even through the middle of town. 11 Miles. 11 fucking miles.
I have lived in DFW/Midcities, L.A., Orange County, and Houston, and this is by far the most aggravating traffic I have ever experienced.

Saw I-35 and thought you might have been talking about Minnesota. It does go all the way up to Duluth!

I'm always in awe of the sheer stupidity driving on Austin streets.

Yup. Only LA has been more aggravating, and that was just mainly due tot he impossible volume regardless of time, day or season. It's just always jammed.
But yeah, I drive from Circle C, up MoPac, then cut through Wm Cannon to Manchaca to drop off the kids at daycare, then back onto Ben White, then about 3 miles on I35 to Cesar Chavez. The total distance is about 12 miles, and it takes me at least an hour ever morning. Doesn't matter if I leave at 7 am or or 9 am, that's how long it takes. And I will probably slam on my brakes at least a half dozen times, be forced to make an evasive lane change at least twice, and say at least once, in earnest, fuck it, fuck you, fuck this city, and fuck humanity.

Have you explored alternate routes? When I lived at lamar/71 and worked at airport/2222, I would take mopac north in the morning (not terrible), and airport south to MLK, then chestnut/pleasant valley down to 71. Much more bearable that 35 gridlock. Sometimes I'd take lamar all the way down to 71, sometimes I'd fork down Guadalupe then take S. 1st.
As much as I'd like to live in S. Austin, all the tech jobs are north and west for the most part. It's a huge quality of life improvement to not have to commute more than 25 mins each way worst case (~10mins best case).
