He used to own a 2.0T which did seriously poor mpg. This new diesel does double. Unfortunately it's GM era Saab so the headlights are plastic and it's not got heated seats.
Otherwise, it's fab

We never got the diesels here in the states, which is a shame. In my younger days, I would have traded all the heated seats in the world for a diesel 9-5.

Nice 9-5, and with one of my favorite Saab wheel designs, too.

I've never even seen a Saab without heated seats before.
Mind = blown.

Oh... Uhm... Hm. Well. That engine... I've seen mostly grief from it.
Father of my ex- had one of them in an Espace, that car was nothing but bloody trouble. A local club member had a 9-5 just like the one in the pics, she sold it after about half a year due to constant problems. Vel Satis, the funky luxury cruiser by Renault, had 'em as well, and they caused massive problems. Even our government (Slovenia) bought some for fleet usage and left some politicians stranded. :D
If there's an order of engines in SAABs which I'd not recommend, this is at the top, followed by the 2.2 TiD (which is actually far less problematic). Want a SAAB diesel? 1.9 is your best bet.
When all is said and done, I do hope your friend, and indeed everyone with the DMAX V6, manages to get as many miles as they need out of it. Statistics are a lie when it comes down to individual cases, after all. ;)

This is funny because the 1.9 is actually a Fiat / Alfa Engine. [insert joke on italian engine being more reliable than others and how this should provoke hilarity]
Truth is this 1.9 diesel is actually quite bulletproof apart from its intake hoses, which are cheap anyway.

You speak nothing but the truth, dear sir. :)
