Kinja'd!!!

I just got my car back from having the hail damage repaired on Monday. So to the asshat trucker that didn't have their load strap secured and took a gouge out of the paint on my passenger door; F*ck You. I wish nothing more than for you to contract parasitic dysentery from a truck stop burrito.

That is all.

I can't stand that shit.

The worst is the EPIC laziness of dump truck drivers who don't flip their cover back over the load. The damn cover is BUILT IN.

USE IT.

Oh i see that shit all the time. Drives me nuts. I'm so pissed right now you don't even know. I'm going to have to spend another $500+ now to get this taken care of. What's worse, it's down to bare metal so I've got to do it before they start salting the roads.

UGH.

I'm guessing you lost the trucker? He's going the right way for $500 in damage to his rig.

Yea, he sped past me. I was pulling off for my exit (this exit off the freeway is on the left, don't get me started on city planners for that one) and he flew by me on the right. Traffic closed behind him, no oppertunity to safely chase him down.

It takes me forever to secure loads whenever I'm hauling either in my truck, or if I have a trailer behind it, or both. I don't want to be the person who had something fall out of the back of their vehicle and onto/into your windshield.

That and I actually get a huge sense of satisfaction out of properly securing a load down. I don't know what that says about me, because usually I'm pretty laid back about everything, but that load has gotta be secured proper.

I see those signs on the back of gravel trucks that say "Stay back 200'. Not resposible for broken windshields". Guess what A-hole, you are responsible for securing your load and not allowing anything to fall off. Anything.

A couple weeks ago on the highway there was a mattress in the road causing alot of problems for everyone. A few miles later i passed another one, and then after another half hour we passed a pickup half full of mattresses.

I came to say something just like that, but you said it better. The only thing I have to add is the irony that my wife adds to the process. She is an overly cautious type that drives too emotionally and reactively (oppo post on that coming up soon) for my taste. Every time she tasks me with hanging a picture on the wall, it's a big battle over whether the fastener is strong enough to hold the picture. I, the engineer, understands fasteners, force, stress, balance, measurements and so on, but usually can't get it through to her that the small hook that is rated for 5-10 pounds will really truly hold the picture that weighs less than 2 pounds.

But, when it comes to putting stuff in the back of the truck, she always stands there annoyed that I am wrapping things properly with moving blankets, tying them together and to the truck with nylon ratchet straps. There are always multiple "That looks good enough, let's go" comments, when it's obvious to me that everything would topple over at the first corner.

Of course, once out on the road, I am supposed to go 30 in a 40 so that the (now properly secured against her wishes) load doesn't fall out. Of course, we are both right since we have never had anything fall out. :-)

By driving carefully and never checking the mirrors, they probably arrived with at least 90% of those still on the trailer. That's an A where my kids go to school.

To those gravel trucks with the signs that say they are not responsible, you are responsible if something like this happens.

As far as I've been able to find those signs have no legal validity.

I'm not going to lie, I don't secure what i'm hauling most of the time. That being said, I am usually hauling a bicycle in the bed or a piece of wood. if it flys out, it is likely cuz I am crashing.

A friend of mine out in BC had his deductible raised by ICBC because he claimed too many broken windows caused by unsecured loads on dumptrucks. In fact, his _sunroof* got cracked because of a 3" diameter rock bouncing off of the road and deflecting off of the sunroof glass.

When he questioned it, they just replied that he hit a 'magic number' that determines a cost threshold or something similarly stupid.

Because it's easier to 'tax' the victims than police the assholes that cause the damage.
