Laid a crazy strip down the street...

I only have a couple things to say about this video.
1. Those are some bad ass vehicles, the power in that truck is obscene.
2. I'm sure a local track would love to have that many people in there stands, they'd have a better view, a proper light, proper timing, and most importantly - drastically more safety.
I just don't understand street racing, it's dangerous, illegal, and puts others at risk. If that truck had slid all the way across the line or off to the right it could have hit the mustang or a bunch of spectators. What a shame it's not running at it's local track instead of the streets.

STREET RACING BAD, NO MAS
now that we got that out of the way, I caught this on 1320 video's facebook page (I think).

Yeah, it's dangerous, but everyone who's standing there watching or participating is aware of the danger. If you pay attention to the background in the video you can see that they are in an industrial area where there's not going to be any pedestrian traffic and that they've blocked off the road so no other traffic will be able to get onto the strip that they are racing.
Just to be clear I am by no means condoning street racing, I am pro take it to the track, but since they are racing on the street, at least they are taking measures to reduce the risk of injuring any innocent parties.

You're point #2 is so straight on the damn dead truth. I don't get that mentality of being on the "streets" keeps it real. I had a guy that wanted to race my Stang, I was like sure meet me this Saturday night at our local drag strip and he complained it was too far to drive. So driving 30 miles to my end of town wasn't?

Good for you, screw them.

You're right that at least they blocked the streets. That being said that truck was all over the place.

Everything you said is spot-on. I grew up with real race cars at a real track because my dad and uncle exclusively raced at the track. I went to a lot of street races in the 80's and 90's and never felt the need to join...mostly because of some of the things I saw while watching. Never witnessed a really bad crash, but did see a lot of things that would never happen at a track (flying driveshafts, people standing too close, etc).
The driver of the truck kind of reinforces my position. The amount of power that makes is mental, which means he's a pretty talented driver to keep that thing at least pointed in the right direction. The problem is that thing is probably still spinning the tires at 160 out there and if any of the million bad things that can happen do, the carnage would be unbelievable. Properly dialed in at the track, that thing would run low 7's with no trouble at all.
The problem with these guys is that they want to go fast, but don't want to deal with the safety constraints of a sanctioned track. Chances are that he would make about 1 full pass before being asked to leave any track that had a sanction. I would bet good money that chassis is not SFI 25.3 (or 25.1 or 25.2 or 25.5). Which is insane, because that engine probably cost 3x what it would cost to get a good chassis and dial it in at the track.
Bonus points if anyone can spot another reason to not stand around these guys (hint: 0:54 seconds). Idiots.

I wasn't going to comment, but here we go ...
#1: idiot heating nitrous bottle with a torch... you can afford that motor but not a safe bottle warmer.
#2 closed street...no , they blocked an active street to do their thing , see the 18 wheeler in the background trying to do his job. this is the same way the bikers "close" the road so they can do stunts .
#3: I couldn't see the ambulance and fire truck there keeping it safe...maybe they are out of view of the camera.

ALL OF THIS.
And my dad was a legit drag racer when I was a real little kid as well, here's his badass Torino doing a burn out AT A TRACK. He always taught me to take it to the track, we actually almost bought me a drag car when I was in high school (69 nova that ran 10's, was glorious. Mom said no lol). I get it, they want more of a thrill and less regulations, and not to pay. But man they'll pay big when they kill someone, themselves, or get arrested.
