It's the headlights.
I mean, the grill could work for the effect, but the headlights really affect it.

expect shinier and japaneseier.
Every new car coming just seems to be a Grand Theft Auto Style Knockoff.
Then someone knocks off the newer car, creating an infinite loop.
Soon every car will just the same

A little better, but still vanilla to the point that it might be difficult to make the car actually look aggressively good.
I don't know why they don't split at the grille... the bumper cover between the grille and the hood is annoying.
Subaru keeps sawing back and forth... Make 2012 Impreza look like 2010 Legacy, then make 2015 Legacy look like that 2012 Impreza....
With some other car's styling thrown in for a bit of measure... 2005-09... near camry tail lights, and a BMW-ish hoffmeister kink. (still there)... 2010-current: a healthy dose of Honda Accord in the glasshouse and general profile, since Toyota had bought a share in FHI, and didn't want in-house competition, presumably.
This 2015 rendering has a healthy dose of GM's Malibu and Impala, and maybe a bit of Acura TL/TSX in the window-line.
This from a company who's ads talk about other brands of cars being beige and bland... yeah.
I lusted after the 2004 JDM, and 2005 USDM Legacy GT for two years, and planned, and saved, and scrimped to afford one, and got it.
I am not feeling the lust for this, but at least it isn't as derpy looking as the 2010 was.
Now it is just another mainstream sedan with AWD, since many others now do too. The only remarkable thing is that it has a boxer engine... but most people don't care about that very much.
Subaru is mainstreaming and bland-ifying, and I am just not hooked by it. I used to be very ANGRY about it... I don't have the energy to be angry about it anymore... and I am almost ready to write subaru off as a boring mainstream company, with one or two exceptions to that rule, but not ones that I have a role for in my driving requirements.
No Forester XT Sport/XTI is a killer. If they introduce a WRX or WRX STI equivalent XV Crosstrek variant... maybe I could entertain that.
I wanted a new SVX... but if this is what Subaru is up to... they'd just ruin it, and I'd rather then have an old 996 or early 997 Carrera 4, and do an AWD H6 6-speed sport coupe properly.

Yeah, but it'll probably end up looking exactly like that considering how the mule looks.
