Welcome to One Car Garage, in which I choose a manufacturer or class of vehicle, and you decide choose single vehicle (no matter how old, no matter how exclusive) to live with for the rest of your life. This is your only vehicle, and all expenses are paid for, including price of entry, insurance, gas, etc.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was interesting yesterday, as it was quite a far cry from the litany of sports/sport oriented cars we usually see on OCG, largely because GMC never really directed their focus in that direction. Today though, we will be heading back to Italy to browse the glorious Italian goddesses of Modena. Today we’ll be looking at Maserati.

Perhaps it’d be easiest to live with the new Levante that’s coming out, as it’ll be on the Durango/Cherokee platform provided by Chrysler, and it’ll have optional AWD. For some reason though, it just doesn’t do it for me. It isn’t that I’m opposed to a Mase SUV. It’s just not quite right to me. I can’t pinpoint it. Perhaps it’s that I like my choices to be proven performers, and the Levante has yet to prove itself. For that reason, I’ll be venturing into a land you’ll very rarely see me in. The land of (ugh) 4 doors. I’ll have myself a Quattroporte. Not just any Quattroporte though. I find the first series, the Tipo 107 to be the most attractive of the bunch. It was made from 1963 to 1969. For 68 and 69 though, they upped the engine size and output from a 4.1 litre mill producing 256 horsepower to a 4.7 litre producing 295. This update also came with a few other changes, most prominently the switch from single headlights to two per side. I’d rather happily tote the family around in a gorgeous Italian chariot, even if it has the wrong number of doors.

Hate the Enzo, Love the MC12

1. Your choice is awesome.
2. Maybe nobody else will agree, but I'm getting a Maserati for the refined sounds and comfortable luxuryness. All your racecars are awesome, but I'm partial to this guy.

The Maserati Quattroporte II by Frua.

I'm going to go with the Birdcage concept, because it'd be like driving around in a spaceship and it's got one of the coolest "doors" ever.

Give me a 1967 Maserati Ghibli. Because loooooong and beautiful, 1 Carb barrel (4 dual webers) per cylinder, quad-cam V8 and 160mph top speed.
Also, I know why I love the look so much, and you'll now never be able to unsee it:
It's like Nissan took the Maserati and just squished it into a 90 inch wheelbase. Which, incidentally, also used Weber carbs.

Well now I think I made the wrong decision. OCG always seems to do that to me...

Maserati Mistral Spyder. As much as I like the modern Quattroporte, this beats it hands down for me.

GranTurismo Convertible

you beat me to it!! I would love to DD a Quattroporte GTS, perfect for the daily tasks.

Anything they ever made? 250 Aerodinamica. Yes, not the birdcage.
Road car? The indy.

Another difficult one. Do I go with the sculpted beauty and stonking V8 of the Khamsin...
...or my own personal vice, an early Biturbo with a later 2.8l TTV6 swapped in (plus the later suspension goodies and torsen LSD)?
I think I'll go for the Biturbo, if only because someone else will probably choose a Khamsin.

Gran Tursimo hands down.

Aww yeah, Chrysler TC by Maserati
But in reality I'd have a Granturismo. It's one of the most gorgeous modern cars in my opinion

It's been a while since I've answered one of these !
As for Maserati, I'm probably going with this :

I could totally live with this '54 Berlinetta :D

A Shamal? That is a dangerous choice, sir or madam.

With so much history and racing success how can you pick just one!?
My heart says the 250F would be an amazing vehicle to drive and race, and it has eight F1 wins.
Second race car choice is the A6GCM, which was batshit insane and brought Maserati to a podium finish nine times in F1 races.
For my actual live-with-it pick, it must be the sublime A6G 2000 Zagato Coupe, with a silky smooth 2.0L 150hp inline 6 engine and gorgeous Zagato curves.

Ghibli II - fancier Shamal with a turbo V6.

what did they make, 11 of those?
![]() 10/09/2013 at 14:46 |

Thirteen Quattroporte II's were built, plus two of the Fruas, which technically slotted between the Quattroporte I and the Quattroporte II, but are usually counted as II's.

best car I ever called a "4-door"

Because I can't seem to choose between the Sebring and 3500GT, I'm going to go in a completely different direction and nominate the Quattroporte II:
Built on a stretched Citroen SM chassis, styled by Gandini, hydropneumatic suspension, zingy V6, 5MT , active headlights, and only 13 made. It makes the Aston Martin Lagonda look positively common by comparison. And probably reliable, too. But I love its elegance and oddball FWD obscurity.
So it's in my Maser OCG.

That's the Ghilbi II.
This is the Shamal. My favorite of the Biturbo series.
![]() 10/09/2013 at 14:57 |

It is, like others people told a Ghibli II.
And, if you want to geek out for a bit, I believe it was the car with the highest HP-per-liter of it's time.

Not really a fan of either but then again my go-to brand of the same time period is Audi because quattro + inline-5 = heaven. That biturbo V6 though......that is such a sexy motor.

Highest until it caught on fire and exploded in a very passionate, italian way.

Birdcage 75th. Because look at it. Also I want to write a Noir film where the main character drives it daily.......it doesn't have to make sense!
![]() 10/09/2013 at 16:00 |

Because racecar.

One Maserati Merak for me. It had similar styling compared to the Bora, but with the Maserati V6 engine (shared with the Citroën SM). Compared to the Bora though, it also had neat flying buttresses in the rear, 2+2 seating, and slightly better handling from the lower weight.

I'll take the 1953 A6G Spyder that sold at this summer's RM auction in Monterey for $3.2M. It's like a classy Cobra

I'm going to be almost-sensible and get a Bellagio Fastback by Touring Superleggera. It's a Cinquoporte!

The Bora is lovely, and I would love to own a Quattroporte. However, seeing as how it's a one car garage, and the Quattroporte is quite common and far more complex, I will have to go with the stunning Mexico. I have the classiest boner right now.

I already own it. I just hope I can keep up with the maintenance and repair costs as it ages. Oh I forgot, you're going to pay for that. Thanks so much!
