So I work for a NYC area Chevy dealer, and I currently own a 2011 Camaro...

A guy traded in a 1997 Camaro RS, with the 6cyl engine, and 266,000 miles...

It really has no redeming value, except for that that it does run, and doesnt smell all that bad....

I want to do one of 3 things with it, listed from most to least amount of money spent...

1) rip out everything and make it a drag car

2) 24 Hour of LeMons

3) flip it

i really want to do #1, and I would drop in a 2007 or newer 6.2 GM truck motor and trans which should cost me about $5,000 used.... and I can do all the labor

my question is, what option would be best? How much would you guys say it would cost in parts alone to turn this into a drag car...

and how much would it cost to turn it into a LeMons car....

Ive never done anything like this before, I just am trying to avoid a nightmare...

Isn't the whole point of buying a cheap Camaro for its V8 engine? I'm sure you can find another driving one, maybe a 3rd gen for $500.

What engine is in it?

There's lots of people driving '90s Camaros in drag racing, I personally haven't done one but there is lots of information out there. I'd say, depending on how serious you want to go, get strip-specific front suspension components (not absolutely necessary to begin with), a rear axle built for about the horsepower you're shooting for (again, only needed if you would grenade the stock unit), a set of drag fronts and drag radial rears, and the necessary safety components, and you should be fine.

its not worth it to flip

5 grand? Dude, you can go to the JY and pull a LSx based LQ motor for like 600 bucks and drop that in. You can turn this into a 11-12 second car for a lot less than 5 grand if you play your cards right.

ah shit, I'm not exactly a chevy guy here.

I mean, the car is already OBD II, so some of the wiring should be rather close. Motor mounts should be the same as a LS1 car.

You have a 5th gen, I'm sure you know about LS1tech, theirs been a lot of LS/LQ swaps on that forum.

Dont forget money for a Rear End, You might get a few passes before it grenades the ring gear all over the track.

Gut it, install subframe connectors, nitrous, and drag race until broken.

THEN V8 swap with a 6.0L LS, nitrous, drag race until broken, repeat as many time as you can until you go bankrupt.

This reminds me, who was the guy on here who was building the piss out of a v6 from an f-body chassis? I can't remember what car it was or what their username was, but they had a really in depth build log on a forum somewhere. Anyone know who I'm talking about?
