Changing my cabin air filter. What's the plug I'm holding in my hand, on the left? Is it important? It hasn't been plugged in. Also I haven't needed to remove any screws from the glovebox or kick panel. That's kinda weird. Info: 1995 M3 Coupe

Edit: POS mobile kinja. Hang on. There we go.

Looks like a butt plug. Great for jamming in cracks. Door cracks, sicko.

It's a pain in the dick to do, I removed my glove box and the panel underneath. The plug could be for a light under there that you don't have.

It's a good thing to do! Don't tell anyone, but I've never changed this one.

It's been a breeze so far. Cause like I said, I haven't had any screws or anything yet... it was all just sitting there...

I've got a wire clipped into a fake plug behind where my traction control button would be had it been optioned. It would appear that automakers sometimes just install the complete wiring harness on every car rather than having different "versions" of it for differently specced cars.

For some reason, on my e36 328i sedan there is a threaded hole on each A-pillar, covered by the trim. What the fuck are they for?

True, but the M3 should have just about all the options, and TC wasn't available this year...

Yeah, for real. What are they for?

Duh. They're factory installed mounts for the pillar gauges that will inevitably be added by the euro-rice M3-wannabes.

Did you have a light down there?

could it be your OBD port?

Side note: I thought you were a whiner for calling it a pain in the dick. Then I figured out I had to remove that POS duct thing in front of the filter...

Edit: and I can't get that connection block to come down...

So yeah... it is a major pain.

Pretty sure I don't have one. The diagnostic port is in the engine bay, but I don't think I have a fancy interior port.

If it is after 96 you have OBD-II. But that is not an OBD-II port. I have no idea what it is for. Maybe a wiring diagram could tell you.

1995. Sorry, should have mentioned that. I'm digging into the diagram now, but there are a whole bunch of wires up in there...

It looks like, according to the Bentley manual, it is probably for something I don't have. Could be something for the 4-door version or convertible.
