Step 1: Spend $40,000 on a Mini
Step 2: Weep incessantly as a base Cooper S with $5k in wheels/tires/suspension/boost wipes the floor with you at autocross, as you realize you still spent $10k more than he did
Step 3: Realize that with $40k you could have had a used 911. Or NSX. Or Exige. Or literally anything else.
Step 4: Begin questioning every decision you ever made, ever, in life

I honestly don't know why anyone would buy one... however I have seen about 3 when I was in Florida...

Laugh as they get huge repair bills while you have your warranty.
But seriously, 40k for a Mini?

Yep. $40,000 smackaroos for a Mini with no back seat and a number plaque inside

I think it's more along the lines of...
Step 1: drop $40k on a Mini
Step 2: park it with the rest of your collection
The End
ps I still want one

This car is like on the list of cars I always will want to buy but will never come up with any reason why it makes sense.

It's true that it's pretty tough to justify that price, but those wheels, man. Those wheels .
Also, if most people blew their cash on a MINI, they'd probably pick that over this (though I think it's goofy in a good way).

For $40k I'd get 2 of these

You have to factor in resale value as well. If you take a $25k mini, and put $5k in aftermarket into it, you've now hurt the resale value by $5k as well. So now you have a $20k mini that you have $30k in. The GP will hold its value because of low production numbers. It's like buying a
135i, and making it as fast as a 1M coupe. Yeah you can do it, but in the end you would of been better off just getting a 1M.

When I was looking for tires to put on my mom's Clubman, I ran across an interesting forum post. A GP owner needed new tires and was upset that the ultra sticky R-comps didn't last. He was looking to put a set of regular old "high performance all seasons" on the car. It gave me a good chuckle.
