Fuel Gauge says 1/2 tank. Only been 65 miles since last fill up.

A while ago Fuel Gauge said "1/8th tank", and then it only took 28 litres of gas in a 53 litre tank.

My future looks like this:

Passenger: "Hey man looks like you don't have any gas"

Me: "whatever, 1/8th is the new half"

Passenger: "what"

No sir, I drive a far more basic ride than that. The car everyone on Oppo loves to hate, my 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.

My Miata's fuel gauge doesn't move for the first 100 or so miles, then plummets to half over the next 20 miles.

lol.

Really bad fuel economy over those 20 miles.

Yeah, my Land Cruiser says I am empty when I have about 10 gallons left (out of a 25 gallon tank). I just reset my trip odometer every time I fill up and judge my fuel level based upon how many miles I have traveled (assuming around 12 mpg). I usually shoot to fill up before I hit 250 miles, just to be on the safe side.

AH

A friend of mine bought a used Mini a few years ago. We decided to take it for a drive that evening during which we noticed very similar behavior. Apparently it was really common with those things. Really sucked considering she bought it as a commuter vehicle. She sold it a year later and decided to commute in her Jeep instead.

i hear that, Im at 140 at half a tank. Which isn't too bad until you consider that it represents nearly 13 gallons.

Are you just bad fuel economy, or just big? I know based on my driving my fuel economy is shite, but even so, the gauge is way wrong, it should be about 2x that.

Join the club. My Trans Am's gauge goes way above the full line and doesn't move for the first 100mi. After that it plummets to the empty line and will stay there for 60 miles. I just know that when my needle reaches the full line it is really at half tank.
