I'm bored. There is an hour left of work... and I want to know what your favorite hot hatches are.

Mine is the Honda (Acura) Integra Type-R.

I contest that's a hot coupe, and the real winner is the same generation civic :D

Ummmm...is that a hatch? I know it has a hatchback style deck lid opening thing, but is it really a "hot hatch"?

Mine.

The Integra's a coupé! Yes it's a liftback, but coupés can be either. See the Mk.IV Supra for one example.

Anyway, I'm thinking Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy. Or a V6!

Well it is technically a hot hatch, however I've often seen that kind of car being referred to as "sport compacts".

I would argue otherwise. The Integra type R employe a hatch rather than a trunk lid. This would therefore...by definition make it a hatchback. Although it does not have the stereotypical flat back hatch as we see on cars like the Civic SI 02-05 or the GTI or SVT Focus it does still employ a hatch back. Having owned the Type-r's little bro the GS-R I can say that it had all the utility of the 05 civic SI and more, and the same can be said when comparing it to the SVT.

Tough one... Mine would definitely be something French, probably the 205 GTi

Or the Mégane RS 265

Or maybe the Clio Williams, because gold wheels.

I very much consider it a hatchback. because ultimately that is what it is. A quick search on Wiki (best source ever) you will see that it is considered "A hatchback derivative of the Civic"

While running searches on used car sites you can find yourself looking through a selection of integras by narrowing your searches to "Hatchbacks"

And the clio is epic. I saw a couple while i was living in europe and i loved them....just wish i had gotten the chance to drive them

I would also accept Supras and others of that ilk. Lets not limit ourselves simply to the idea that the hatch has to be verticle. a hatch is a hatch.

Wait, how can it be the hatchback version of a hatchback? I'm sorry but it's a coupé! I'll never see it any other way. I guess other people are tricked by the tailgate. I see the original Integras were available with 3 or 5 doors, which would make them big hatchbacks, but ultimately the Type-R is the 3-door shape, and if it were any other car in the world, you'd call the particular shape that it is a coupé body.

See and that is the issue we are dealing with here. It is a hatchback. by definition. it has a hatch back. It can be a sport coupe or sport compact but so can the GTI, ST, RS, SVT, Type R Civics. The distinguishing factor in all of this is the hatch.

VW Golf Mk2 Limited.

Kinja'd!!!

"Based on the Rallye Golf, a very limited edition Golf Mk2 variant exists, combining all of the high-line options available at the time. Designed and hand-built by the Volkswagen Motorsport division; only 71 of these "Golf Limited" models were produced. The exclusive feature package included a G60 supercharged version of the 16-valve GTI engine, mated to a sports transmission and Syncro four-wheel drive mechanism. All of these special edition models came in gunmetal grey, with five doors (except two examples built with three doors), BBS RM wheels in 6.5Jx15", US bumpers, a plain two-headlight grille with a unique blue detail, black VW logo, Hella tinted taillights, motorsport badges and a special numbered plaque. It is rumored that two examples were built with air conditioning. In 1989, these cars cost in the region of DM 68,500 each and were primarily sold to VAG executives and management, although a few are known to exist in Britain as of 2005. These cars produced 210 PS (154 kW; 207 hp) 252 N·m (186 lb·ft) and 0–100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.2 seconds, making them the most powerful VW Golfs ever produced until VW released the Mk4 R32 with 241 PS (177 kW; 238 hp) in 2003."

It makes it a baffling place!

One last gasp before we call it a draw: the DC5 Integra (Acura RSX) - Type-R or not - was classified as a coupé by Honda. It's the same shape as the DC2.

Dont think i dont understand what you are trying to say. And yes I agree they are coupes. and yes I agree putting a Cayman next to a GTI in the "hot hatch" category sounds crazy. But they are hatchbacks based on that build feature alone. Although, i dont think i can put the seats down in the Cayman and get my bicycle in the back...kinda frustrating.

I still say there's a difference between having a hatchback and being a hatchback (a confusion caused by having the vehicle type named after a tail gate type), but I'm not going to push this any further. Have a beer with tits on it:

The new Scirocco is beautiful and I hope to god they bring it here...ive heard whispers of such. I almost jumped on a Corrado once but I needed a daily driver and that just wasnt practical.

I knew a guy that ran a german import shop and had the original Scirocco that he had tuned up to 800whp. I am not sure what he all had in it but it was a scary ass car.

No problem mate, I've been in love with this car since I bought my first Mk2 GTi 16v 12 years ago. You could say it's a holy grail for me, if you gave me the choice of a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Golf Mk2 Limited (sometimes called G60 Limited) I'd take the Golf in a heartbeat.

Heh, well, what I meant (quickly) was:

> A car that's a hatchback: A type of car. Two-box shape with glass in the tailgate, like I assume all the answers to your OP question are ( liftbacks like these also count, but I generally prefer to call them liftbacks and make the distinction, because I'm a bit like that as you've seen...).

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

> A car with a hatchback: A car of any type that happens to have glass in the tailgate. Are often coupés if they're not just hatchback cars anyway. Other examples include the Ferrari F12berlinetta, Aston Martin Vantage, Jaguar XK and E-Type and Lamborghini Espada.

But enough now. Cheers! I suspect I'll need to wash it down with a pint of Brains.

I kind of feel like the term "hot hatch" better applies to economy cars that have been converted afterwards to sporty cars, not sporty coupés that happen to have a hatch.
