Quiet until we get ahold of it and put flowmasters on it lol.
Honestly I almost got this car with a 400m motor in it instead of the Montego. I'm happy with my Montego and that I saved 2 grand by choosing the Montego.

Wow, this is cool. I just aquired a 1973 Gran Torino Sport Q-Code. There needs to be some support for the Torino and Gran Torino out there.

So, question? getting conflicting info. I thought the first gens of these's where FWD. but some info says yes some say no, since the first gen where built off was it the Fairline platform, but doesn't mention the FWD thing or was that in later models. Am I confusing something?

Ya you might be, I don't know a Fairlane or Torino or even Gran Torino that has had something like a FWD. I own a 1973 one and its RWD and my dad owned a 1964 Fairlane. and it did not have fwd.....where did you hear about a FWD one?

The Torino wasn't FWD. You may be confusing the Torino with the Olds Toronado.

No info on any FWDs that I can find. Considering that it was BOF until '72, I don't think it was ever FWD.

Uh, no. Ford's first front-driver in America was the '77 Fiesta and it was imported. Ford's first FWD American-made car was the '81 Escort.
You must be confusing this with the Oldsmobile Toronado. Toronado =/= Torino.

Definitely no FWD (not trying to pile on you here) but I own a Montego which is a Mercury version of a Torino I've done crazy research into Montegos, Torinos, Fairlanes, and Galaxies. No FWD to be found.

YES! Nice purchase!
I have as you've probably heard a 68 Mercury Montego MX (Mercury version of a Torino). Need some pics of this.

Ya I've checked them out, but this thig is all origional rust free and numbers matching to boot! Guy repainted 20 years ago the factory color and had ford go through the engine in the same year only 71k miles 11k of those were put on over the span of 20 years other wise the car sat and so far only a few things have started to wear down like master cyclender and the hearter core didn't work when we got it but all of those things will be fixed over the next month!

Fantastic. Always good to check your numbers. It was the first clue to check the window sticker that came with mine for the word "Cyclone" which I found. Instant 15% increase in value.
I don't have a master cylinder to go bad :-(
Though I do only have 61k miles on mine! What motor is in yours 400 or 351?

My Super 44 Flowmasters will eat most glass packs for breakfast.
Been planning on getting that video up here.

351C CJ, one of the guys in my car club I'm in is like the world expert on 351C and aperantly the Q-Code 351C has the 429CJ cams inside of it advanced 4 degrees for performance and "fuel econmey"...imagine turning them back...but the compression is 8:1 sadly but just raise it up I guess

351C CJ? Wow. Talk about a different motor.
I assume it's a 4 barrel on it then too. With a couple little tweaks to the emissions choke hold they had on there in 73 you should have one wild machine. And I say that for having a little 302 that is absolutely a blast to drive with a couple adjustments (edelbrock performer RPM intake and 4 barrel holley, then dual super 44 flowmasters 2.5 inch pipes)

Yes it's the got the 4 barrel on it als, my dad and I took my daily driver and the Torino out and raced them...my DD is a 2008 Mustang with a FRPP CAI and FRPP True dual exhaust and a Bamma tuner from American muscle and the Torino is faster then it. Also the Torino rides like it's on a cloud. Über comfy and spacious, I fit 3 friends in it comfortably and I my self have ridden in the back seat, I'm 6'4" and I was comfy back there.

NICE! I don't know that the Montego is that fast but it sure as hell is a blast to drive, and rides way smoother than a stock 1968 should. Mine even has 6 seat belts lol.

It was an option in the Montego's and the Torino's in 68. Mine being a grandma car originally was fitted with the column shifter and bench seats.

Unless I'm missing something the first FWD Ford, made in the US, was the 1986 Taurus. The first FWD Ford officially sold in the US was the German built 1980 Fiesta.
