Also the driver has to be slightly touched in the head.

Never realized how good Range Rovers are at off roading!

They're actually shockingly good, especially considering their "poshness."

Shame 99% of these aren't driven even close to their limit.

I'd got so far as to say they rival the Defender's off road ability.

I think coming down would be worse than going up. Looks like the back tires are almost coming off the ground on the way down.

Stock for stock, no doubt. I imagine the defender is easier to modify, though, having solid axles and all. You can only lift independent suspensions a little bit.

Agreed. To be fair, you have to be a bit insane to take your $80,000 SUV off road where it will likely receive plenty of body and paint damage.

True but more stuff is coming out for the LR3+ so independant suspension mods are becoming more availble. Still best thing about the Defender is it's simplicity which leands itself to easy modification.
Although I'm seeing more and more mods for LR3's so it will just take time for the enthusiast market to catch up.

The issue I find with the LR4 is wheels/tires. It's hard to find offroad tires that will fit a wheel size that will fit over the brakes.

I found this site, if it works for the Rangie it should work for the LR4:

I'm very impressed. My parents P38 has gotten me out of some sticky snow situations before. side note to passenger- one shouldn't go rock climbing with their limbs outside the vehicle.

That is easily the most impressive thing I've seen a road legal vehicle do. Holy shit. I really thought it was going to go badly on the way down.
