Overtake Ferrari 458 doing 105 km in a 110 km zone.

Overtake AMG C36 doing 105 km in a 110 km zone.

Overtake Porsche 911 doing 105 km in a 110 km zone.

VW Polo with P plates blows past all of us doing at least 130 km in a 110 km zone.

Highway Patrol has him on the side of the road 10 km later.

Enjoy your loss of licence there sunshine.

I believe this is how we all looked when we saw the Polo.

So in our lovely nation we start on Learner 'L' plates for a year, speed capped at 80km. Year after that we get red Provisional 'P' plates, capped at 90km. Then we get green 'P' plates capped at 100km. So after 3 years of learner/provisional status you finally get your full licence.

All of the learner/provisional status plates only have a small amount of points attached to them, so by breaking the speed limit by 40km, that's an insta loss of licence and a nice big fine.

Please explain the double demerits thing and the rationale behind it if it is what I think it is.

So basically over public holiday long weekends, Christmas, etc, the powers that be decide that the best way to curb speeding and general vehicular tomfoolery is to double the amount of points you lose on your licence for any sort of infraction.

What we end up with is assholes on the road still being assholes, and the majority of the general public driving 10 km under the speed limit, slamming on their brakes when the see a police car, and giving the small minority of us that can actually keep to the limit a lovely minefield to navigate.
