Apparently, according to German Newspaper Bild, F1 is considering banning the constant changing of helmet liveries. There reasoning: "so that - as in the past - television and trackside spectators can pick out their favorite driver by reliably spotting his customary helmet design."
I'm not really a fan of how constantly drivers like Seb change their helmets but this seems more than just a little ridiculous. Are the t-bar colors, which are there precisely for driver identification, not good enough? Moreover, how does this help situations like at Merc, where even television commentators still get confused let alone casual fans?
Answer: it doesn't. Jezza knows it too:

(sorry if this has already been discussed, I know the article is old).

If only the cars were numbered.

Honestly, I couldn't identify using the T-bars, because I don't know which is which or where I'd find that information. I think this no constantly-changing helmets thing is a good thing, and I think they'll still be allowed one token change (or special helmet) in a season.
Mercedes do need to make their helmets more different, though. Yes I know that Rosberg's is a more flourescent yellow than Hamilton's with a silver bit over his forehead, and he wears yellow gloves, but unless you're seeing an onboard shot, you really can't tell at a glance. I can generally tell the shades of yellow apart, just, whereas if you look at Ferrari, they've got Alonso's bright blue helmet and Massa's bright green one. McLaren have Button's Union Flag colours and Perez's high-vis green. And so on.

#1 driver is black, #2 is yellow. The lower numbered car (world champion is #1, his teammate #1, then it's based on constructor's ranking from previous year) is the #1 car (black) and the #2 car (yellow) is the higher numbered of the two cars.

WUT? No moar nekkid ladies on this kid's helmet? Why are we supposed to watch F1 then?
Come to think of it, why does he wear a helmet anyway? He never crashes into anything.

I take it you don't remember Turkey 2010? Or spa 2010 to come to think about it.

I identify using the T-bar and in Lotus's case the names on the air intake. I'm all for the random helmet designs. Kimi + James Hunt = awesome

They are numbered, but in a very clever way that is almost never seen for more than a fraction of a second at a time.

"#1 driver is black, #2 is yellow"
Wait, are you calling Rosberg a coward?

It is Bild. Ignore it. They are worse than Gawker when it comes to pageview whoring.

I definitely agree with but, to their credit, they were the first to report that Kimi was finalizing a K with Ferrari.

LOL, they're the first to report everything - true or not. They get it right sometimes.
