And they talked about how they wanted to make the F-Type better than its predecessors and it got me wondering.
Is the F-Type better than the D-Type, E-Type, etc? What do you guys think?
And here's a picture because it's always a good time to stare at an F-Type.

What are the F's predecessors, for starters? It's not like Jaguar has a long line of 2-seater sports cars.
Calling the F a better car than the E is a bit of a stretch considering that it was relatively more affordable and in the edge with the fastest cars of its day.

Well in the video they said that it would be the XK120, C-Type, D-Type and E-Type.

If by "better" they mean that it's more luxurious and easy to handle, then yes, they won the cake. But then again, that's not my definition of "better".
Not that the F isn't a cracking good car.

As a civilized yet fun road-worthy sportscar? Yes, it's probably more reliable (certainly faster) than those before it without killing away the fun with electronics and safety equipment, a "good" compromise between performance and economy.
As a race car, not yet. It still needs to cut its teeth and win races before anyone can say it's better than the C, D, or E types.

If you're looking at it purely objectively, then the F-Type is better in almost every way. It's faster, more fuel efficient etc.
Saying that, if you look at them in comparison with the other cars available at the time I'd say the E-Type is superior. It was faster than a Ferrari and an Aston (arguably prettier too), yet cost half as much.
What's more, it has more motorsports heritage. When the F-Type wins its class at Le Mans, then it can be seen as equal.

Good point, wasn't recalling that too.

Better than the actual car(s) it succeeded? Absolutely without a question in nearly every way. Better in its time than the car(s) it succeeded? No, it would be an utter disappointment if we were to put it in that light. Still a good car none the less.
