Throttle hung open. You can hear the engine is still way above idle even after the truck is stopped. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families as well as the driver and his crew. There was nothing the driver could have done to prevent this.

I was trying to say there was nothing he could have done AFTER THE THROTTLE HUNG. I have since learned that he had his helmet knocked off when the truck landed so he may have been unconscious. Either way, the entire blame goes to the promoter. There should have been more room between the crowd and the truck. They should have been using an RII, and there should have been at least some jersey barriers between the crowd and trucks.

He did have his helmet knocked off. He was either dazed or unconscious as he was going through the crowd. It does take a few seconds to get your bearings after a hit like that even if you are just dazed. If the truck had an RII, remote ignition interrupter, someone else could have shut it down as soon as it got close to the crowd.
