Without giving anything up before the jump, I just have to say wow. Wow. WOW! What a helluva exciting race today. I seriously don't understand how anyone can hate on Indycar racing other than how the cars look (I like how they look though). There was nary a dull moment in the race today, right from the start, all through mid-race, and another exciting 20 lap run to the finish. In comparison to the Vettel walkaways that F1 racing has become, this is insanely great to watch. I had to have a Dogfishhead just to come down after the race.
But the most important thing is this lady right here:
Simona de Silvestro takes her first podium, and comes in 2nd behind Scott Dixon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Coming on the back of a top 5 finish in Baltimore, and after a terrible last year with the Lotus engine, then a previous awful fiery year before that, it's fantastic to see her stick with things and bounce back. Also, her teammate Tony Kanaan nearly tackled her in jubilation after the race which was incredibly heart-warming to see.
Also, at the last re-start with about 10 laps to go, there was some question as to whether race leader Dixon had a tire going down and for the next 10 laps I was literally clutching a blanket like a 4 year old thinking she could win the race if he had to pit. I probably would have lost my mind/wet myself with excitement if that had happened.
If you haven't watched today's race, there's another on that airs on NBC Sports tomorrow afternoon. Should be just as great to watch. Hopefully Simona has another top finish!
And if you DVR'ed this race or are watching a later broadcast and you stupidly read this even after I said there would be spoilers.... don't worry, there were enough plot twists and excitement to make knowing the top 2 place finishers almost a non-issue. Just pretend it's an F1 race because you already know who's going to win there and you still watch it anyway. And this was waaaay more exciting.
