There have already been 35% more customers this year than the previous year, and no end to the growth in demand in sight. All of which prompted Magna Steyr in Austria – where the Geländewagen has been made since 1979 – to thoroughly modernise and expand their facility.
So I guess either farmers, armies and 3d world NGOs really needed some good, new wheels, or else the 1%ers have been entirely unaffected by the downturn or good taste. I fear I know the answer.
A proper G wagen, used properly.

I'd really like a classic G-Wagen. That tan one looks incredible, especially displaying its functionality.

Yeah, I hate the luxury version, I see the biggest idiots I can imagine driving them when I'm in CA. I saw a purple one with some strange custom cloth top. Looked like the woman matched it to her lipstick, I wanted to burn it. The other side of the coin is G Wagon Preserve in CA, they have some great pieced together off roaders.

It's actually a pre-series production example, being tested by Steyr and Mercedes people in Tunesia in the late '70s. Proper design: it couldn't be improved upon, and it still looks good.

The new market for G wagons has totally killed it for me. Sent all the used prices through the roof, and just ruined what would have been classified as just a serious off road vehicle. Now it's bling first. The G Wagon starts at $133,000 in the UK. Not for the NGO's or Farmers. I don't think a wealthy farmer would 'trade up' his Range Rover for one either. There still are still proper military editions as far as i'm aware, but I doubt they're counted in these numbers.
