Last weekend I went to the 9th annual Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach with Bird. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! while I concentrated on the wheels. In recent months I've become interested in Japanese wheels. I've spent quite a bit of time on the internet learning about the different classic wheels and testing myself to see if I can identify them. It was exciting to see lots of these wheels in person with this new knowledge.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I wasn't planning on doing a post about wheels, so all of my photos are taken with my potato.
Techno Project Phantoms - commonly referred to as Techno Phantoms. These were probably my favorite wheels of the show.
SSR Formula Mesh was a very popular choice.
These SSR Reverse Mesh have been plasti-dipped. The Reverse Mesh do not have the stepped lip that the Formula Mesh have.
Work Ewing III
Work Ewing II - I was really excited to see these because of the fancy center caps.
Riverside Riverge. These wheels are very rare and this set was perfect.
These SSR MkII are painted to match the car. I'm used to seeing these in red or orange, I thought these looked nice.
Advan Racing A3A in classic red. I was looking for these all day and I finally found them!
I can't figure out what these are. Does anyone know?
I also saw many SSR Longchamp XR-4's, Watanabe's and of course Hayashi Streets.
SSR EX-C Defi Fins are the wheels I was most disappointed not to see. I didn't see any regular fin or mesh EX-C's either. I was also surprised not to see any SSR MkI or MkIII because they are both very popular in Japan.
Please let me know if I made any mistakes, I'm kinda new to the whole wheels spotting thing. Check out !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for help identifying Japanese vintage wheels. Thanks to whoever posted this site on Oppo before, it is helpful to have a place to look up wheels because many blogs don't identify them. Also check out !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! it hasn't been very active lately, but it focuses on wheels.

That seems like a really cool car show. Here's a list of classic Japanese wheels I compiled a few years ago. They're more mainstream, but they all look pretty damned good; Japan has always made some of the best wheels.

Cool list. I didn't see a single car with Work Equip 03 either!

Thanks, I just made it quickly for a reason I can't remember. That's really surprising not to see Work Equip 03s, they are usually some of the most popular wheels! I always liked Advan A3As a lot.

Whoa, that Kyusha Shoes site is insane. I'm a big fan of old JDM wheels, I'd love to pick up a set of SSR MKII for my Miata someday.

The unidentified rims looks like something I have seen from the 90's hate to say maybe even American racing ones, unless that is not allowed in that show.

I know, right? That site has really helped me get into JDM wheels. MkII's look great on Miatas.

I don't think there were any rules against American wheels.

They probably look great on that car, but all I can picture is people with s-10, and s-10 blazers of the era usually not lowered and looking not so good, kind of in the height of when ever one started doing after market rims on their cars. like these.

I've got a set of 17" RS-Watanabe F8s on a 2006 G35 Coupe. I've never not once seen that combination before, and it looks really cool.
I've got a 1st gen Celica (per the title pic) as well, I'm currently borrowing a friend's Maxxim Screechs (look like Work Equips) but I'm trying to get a set of 15" Konig Rewinds for it.

I've never seen that combo. It looks good, the size is just right. I wish I had a Celica...

offset is wrong. but I'd have to spend $2400 + ship on a totally new set of F8s to get the offset I want. these are 17x7 +35 in front and 17x7.5 +40 in back, if I recall correctly, I "should" be able to get 17x8 +30 all the way around, but they're about $600 or so a wheel. and it took me two years to find this set of 4 secondhand.
