But if they fail to become more accepting, more problems will arise. What do you think the effect of that will be on the shrinking car culture within Japan? They grew so fast (economically and population-wise), and now slowed and negative growth is having extremely negative effects on the country as a whole. As a country that embraces cars as much as Germany or Finland, those effects do not stop for car culture. Losing Japan as a nation of many enthusiasts would hurt the overall automotive landscape in racing, parts, and culture.

Japan's insularity is somewhat of a cultural touchstone. I don't see that changing soon, if ever.

But anyway, their opposition to the dilution of their culture is something I agree with. Good thing for Japan that they don't have to put up America's liberal media trying to shame them for being racists, which they jump on any chance they can get, legit or not.

Ah, I thought you were but I didn't want to be rude and have the tone of "Are you kidding me?" However, I don't quite agree on the second part of your comment. Japan needs more people in their country; they have a high demand for people, while other countries are overstocked with 'em. Also, "you grew up on tacos" seems like an insensitive judgement to make and is as pretentious as when many Europeans make the pretentiously-toned generalization of Americans sitting around and eating burgers. Just because one has heritage that includes a certain culture does not mean they should be judged by it or defined by it, and it is not so much the implications of food as that food is an aspect of culture and cultural aspects have more serious undertones, so food comes to represent those undertones. I don't mean to harp on a particular instance, as I can see where you are coming from; it's just that the whole issue of "the liberal media" is too often cited IMO.

Ha! While that is very true, it is detrimental to our global perception and therefore even to those who do not have such a lifestyle. Stereotypes can become powerful through growing implications. We can no longer label countries as almost completely true things, so it is not worth throwing around labels at all. We need to have changing social practice for a changing, globalized world.

But that's a great quote and I would have to agree with you here. Here's how I look at it: you have a lot of different purebreds. They have problems, and they become worse and more numerous over time. The other types of dogs mix, and it is to their advantage. Thus, they have better health and their problems are of diminishing significance. In this analogy, of course, Japan is the purebred.
