So I quickly passed judgment on the 2014 corolla before I could actually see it in person. First was reading Jalopnik's article

and then my opinion was pretty much confirmed by the time traveling commercial

(left out the mid 00's because they couldn't pick a proper stereotypical scene). However I did manage to see one in the parking lot at HomeDepot the other day and I was really really surprised to see that it didn't get much bigger. Hell, even the Camry looks a tat smaller than the last generation. While Toyota isn't really my favorite brand, I am glad they're pacing themselves on bloat this season. After all it can be contagious i.e. the Nissan Rogue.

I saw the newer Sentra and it's massive!

The article explains why there is no bloat. Just a reskin of a old car.
"The all-new 2014 Toyota Corolla is by no means all-new. It's an updated version of a car that's already eight years old"

Yes, but I didn't think it would actually be juts that. A lot of times the same platform is used and the body panels add visual weight to the car. I was surprised to see in person that it actually looks smaller or rather smoother. Its amazing what different lines will do to a car.

Right? I guess Versa is the new Sentra.

Yeah, I guess that's why they're marketing it so heavily. Nissan's problem (and the beauty of the company) has always been a bloated lineup (which didn't afford them time to truly over-engineer all but a select few cars). In Japan, in 1989, you could buy one of four sports cars, and today you can buy one of four sedans. Unlike Toyota, they really don't have the resources to fully market them. They should try not to apply the brands to different types of cars, because that's when consumer loyalty falters.

Haha I hate the corolla. But I guess I kind of respect it.
