I found the correct placement for the motor mounts so they can be welded on tomorrow, I modified the heat shield on the starter so my headers would fit, cleaned up the outside of the transmission, and did some other little random things. Edit: Those are not the valve covers I am using, they are only on the engine to protect the rocker assembly from dirt.

You are putting in an effort, and finding all the small stuff is a pain. One hint, I got my sheet metal parts like valve covers blasted and powder baked. While I don't like the automatic, that's just me and I realize you didn't order it. Keep up the good work and remember the auto-mechanic's fluid, beer, coffee, or tea depending on your faith, lifestyle, etc.

SWEET!! But, but, you gotta get yerself some ceramic coated headers. I'm thinking about new headers for my truck, and while painted ones are appealing because they're cheap, they will also rust within a couple of years. And that's in CA. I'd spring for the ceramic coating, but then again, that's just me.
Either way though, looks good. Gotta paint those valve covers.

Yeah, sand blasting is an amazing thing. The covers currently sitting on the engine are an old set of covers off a chevy, I just placed them on my engine to protect the valve train from dirt. I have a beautiful set of stock Pontiac valve covers ready to go on.
I really didn't want an automatic, I just couldn't find a Trans Am of sufficient quality with a manual in my price range. I am upgrading from the th350 (3-speed) trans that came in the car to a 700r4 (4-speed) that is now bolted to the engine.

I'd love to ceramic cover them. I took some 2000 degree paint and painted several coats on them, so hopefully they will last a while. Those valve covers are only on the engine to protect the valve train from dirt (they came off an old chevy). I have a beautiful set of original valve covers ready to go on

Fluid, the trans came out of a 1990 Chevy Caprice wagon.

A friend has a Transgo kit on a C6, D=Drive, L2=Just second, L1=Just First. I don't know what there is out there for your tranny, but there are improvements.
Automatic's don't always have to come last, there was a Camaro 350 auto that used to win the slalom, that had two brake petals and master cylinders (one for eache side). It's owner had a suspension shop, and this track car was a bit of an advertisement.
