Taking the SAT's tomorrow morning. Any other Oppohighschoolers also taking it?

I went in the first and worried too much and got a 1570. The next time I did poop in the way of "studying" and got a 1900. So basically, don't sweat and you will be fine.

I did a while back to get into the CTY thing and take some summer courses. It's all about patience; you have to make the questions and material seem interesting by suspending your disbelief. I am taking mine next year, officially. By the way, to get another Oppohighschooler's opinion on the matter, would you mind helping me out with this problem ? GhostZ's philosophy has been my train of thought for a long time, but I want to see if anyone can convince me to not implement it in my life so soon and keep doing the work I have been subconsciously opposed to doing. Thanks.

Go study and get some sleep young man! (Oppo resident English teacher)....for real do get to bed at a reasonable time, eat a good breakfast, and try to relax...if a question is frustrating you too much, skip it and come back to it. You want to get through as many questions you know you can get right as fast as possible...think of it as the "apex everything" approach to test taking. And if you are only an 11th grader this is just to learn the course, you will hot-lap next time. Best of luck. :)

My reply will be in that thread. Also, I know it's early, but good luck!

If you stress out about it you'll do horribly. They make the test seem scary and imposing but it's really not all that bad. I didn't do a lick of studying and got myself a 1990 and a special commendation for scoring in the top 10% of the country on my first try.
/whatisthis"humble"thingandhowdoesitwork?
I didn't graduate from high school though, so who cares what my SAT scores were, right?

Years ago I took it right after the fucking essay was introduced. I studied nothing. Got a 1600 something, only 400 points went to the essay out of way more. I failed the essay for reasons being look at my screen name. But the 1200 something was most excellent.

Thank you so much, man. I wish you the best of luck on your SATs, but I am sure it won't be required. Don't let the title intimidate you and just hang in there. Also, not to be too obvious, but be sure you are as awake and aware as possible; sleep is a major factor in your brain's rate of function as I have learned from personal experience of sitting on my computer all night. I really appreciate it, and good luck on the SAT's of course!
By the way, I forgot to clarify I don't want to impose on you today or tomorrow. Sorry, I can be really forgetful.

Twice, my best score was 1840 (the writing killed me), I did better on the ACT.

Can you be my teacher?! PWETTY PWEASE! We can talk cars all period.
Senior speaking, and not my first time, so I think I know all the corners and where to brake, etc. Hope I get a good lap time!
Also, thanks! (Love how car terms can apply to so much stuff)

Question for you Automatch. I monitor the SAT/ACT tests at a local HS. I was told many tests are put together so you begin easy and steadily climb in difficulty and it peaks in the middle and descends toward the end. Any truth in that?

Did you do the Johns Hopkins CTY course?

The hardest part was the cursive paragraph you have to write.

Yes! How have you heard of it?

good luck. quick question though. the internet didn't exist when I took it, let alone mobile devices. we had to turn in our note cards before the exam. how do people cheat these days?

Ha since I'm not teaching seniors this year it is probably not worth you transferring to NJ. But if I can help in any unofficial capacity you know where to find me...fair warning I have this bad habit of giving unsolicited education/life advice to teenagers (comes with the territory) :)

I know you didn't ask me, but I do feel like that, especially on math tests. Completely elementary stuff in the beginning, but then it becomes fiery death later on.

I'm doing the course now

Wow, what a small world. What are you studying? Also, since I presume you're in or near the DC area, I will be able to send you the details of the upcoming Jalop meet and involve you in the planning if you so wish if you send me an email at nickdezarn@hotmail.com. Last meet turned out pretty decently and we're looking at twice the turnout the next go around.

I took it twice a couple of years back. The first time around, I got a 2020; I got a 710 on the English portion was fine since I speak it, and I'd had enough practice with articulating myself in Revolution Prep practice test essays that I got a 690 on the Writing portion. Given that I was looking to become an engineer, though, my 620 in the Math portion didn't quite cut it for the schools I was looking at and I got crap from my parents because of that. So I took the test a second time and got a 670 in the Math while scoring 10 points lower in the other two sections. I wound up with a 2070 since the highest scores are the ones kept.
My advice: get some sleep, and you should have gotten enough practice in by now (be it from a course or a big-ass book full of questions and prompts) to be ready for every type of SAT question. For Math questions, the difficulty doesn't lie in the subject matter, given that you should have a grasp on Algebra II at this point - it's more about how said questions are asked. You should also be prepared to articulate a 5-paragraph essay based on whatever potentially absurd topic the College Board chooses; I wound up having to do a question about reality TV , of all things.
Good luck!

I took the SATs 30 years ago. No idea what I got on them. Best of luck.

Same here, I did mine online. Good idea to get ahead in math. What grade are you in? I started long after I took the SAT's (took them in 7th grade, did macroeconomics course after 9th). The on-campus courses are practically as expensive as college courses, I think. Plus, with the online courses, you get to go through all of the content at home.

I'm a sophomore, so I'm going to take the PPSAT on Wednesday. (That's the practice-practice SAT.) I'll take the real one next year. Good luck on yours!

Cool, there's nothing harder than to make math interesting. An good math teacher is the best kind of teacher to have as they are saving you from boredom and its byproduct of disinterest in a subject. If you are unlike me in the physical classroom, you will end up fine in high school. :P
