Enough with the 'Ahead of it's time' this and 'futuristic design' that. The reason why we didn't get one is because it's not a worthy successor to the timeless design of the new GT, and the reason it isn't worthy of that is because it's ugly.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not blinded by nostalgia. I wasn't even around for the GT40s glory days and only know of it because ford made the new GT. I'm completely open to a new timeless design. But this angled, horribly proportioned thing with it's ugly-even-on-a-low-rider wheels and swollen greenhouse is definitely not that. By using the edgy, extreme culture of the late ninties as a source of inspiration, they dated the car. That would be fine if the result looked good, but it doesn't.
Timeless car design is...well, it's hard. Making a car that looks good forever is hard. It's something I don't think any designer can aim to do, because you need to be able to see what looks good forever into the future to be able to do it consistently and reliably. No one can do that, which is why, I guess, timeless car designs seem to strike at random, with no regard for price bracket or era of creation. Thats why we can sometimes get normal 'move over, poor person' cars that feature timeless designs, and supercars that sometimes fall far short of special and become forgettable. The Miura is easy to remember for obvious reasons. But is the Jarama?
What's the Jarama you say? Why, it's a Lamborghini produced in the same era. That you must be told this in absence or wikipedia or google, versus being able to look at the car and know - even if you're not a gearhead, even if you don't care for cars at all - that 'yes, this is totally a Lambo' is the difference between a timeless design and a dated one. The GT90 is more than dated. It's ugly. It's what would have happened if GM decided to make the Aztek a supercar instead of a middling crossover. It was we would have gotten in place of the beautiful new GT had Ford pulled the trigger on producing it, and thank Hephaestus that didn't happen.

I totally agree. Th GT90 looks like a dead pig that has been thrown out a 30 story building.

I respectfully disagree, my friend. I love this car, and I don't think it looks dated. They could release it tomorrow as a 2015 model without changing a thing. Ok maybe the wheels...
Who's with me on team GT90?

While in no way a worthy successor to the GT40, I always kind of liked it. Probably because as an 8 year old it was the most spaceshippiest thing I'd ever seen. I think if the car had no wheels and the body panels covered where they were, and it hovered, it wouldn't look out of place in the PS9 commercial. Which incidentally is one of the awesomest commercials ever.

People romanticize like idiots. Sorry, but thats it.
That is not a GT40 successor. It is not a GT successor. The GT was a GT40 successor. The GT's successor with be exactly like the GT except with more power and hydraulic suspension and KERS and anything else technology has created in the last decade since.
The GT still looks like a new car.
That above looks like an art students attempt at design.

Disagree on the GT90, agree that it's not a GT40 successor, enjoyed your commentary on design afterwards.

Concept, say it with me, Concept. (of a product, esp a car) created as an exercise to demonstrate the technical skills and imagination of the designers, and not intended for mass production or sale)
A design exercise. Maybe not the best, but a concept of what the evolution of the Ford GT/GT40 might be like
