I'm going to lose my shit if I see another sponsored post concerning the goddamned Forza/McLaren video thing. Seriously, guys? 30 posts in 10 days? I'm all for Jalopnik leveraging its capabilities to make money, but this is really fucking annoying at this point.

Front Page? What's that??
What bugs me are the posts that get "stickied" at the top. Annoying as fuck.

Why?
No, really, why? It's Ray's current baby, it's relevant to a large majority of the readers here, they have made Jeff Zwart available for questions. They drove a MP4-12C at a constant velocity with an awesome camera with a variable frame rate feature to create a
linear
zoetrope.
This is the most spot on, dead to rights, targeted advertising I have ever seen. If these are the ads of the future, I can't wait for the future. Seriously. Would you rather have more of the "Yaris, it's a car!" ads?

I really do not get the whole point of the stunt. I mean, its cool and everything, but I'm an engineer and I cannot help but see it as a giant waste of time. Why bother with this giant set up when you could accomplish the same thing via software?

It's been the same post formatted 30 different ways. It's not "targeted" when you're beating people over the head with it, it's just beating people over the head with it.
I have no problem with the concept (I think it's quite cool), I have no problem with the sponsored/promotional posts (I think it's just fine for jalopnik to sustain itself as a going concern), but there comes a limit in advertising/marketing where you're beating the shit out of your target customers, no matter how good a job you did in grabbing their attention.

What, you don't want to chat with the producer's twice removed grand child about how he watched them set it all up from the comfort of his stroller?
Joking aside, it is actually pretty cool and I am glad they are showing everything that goes into a short commercial. So much talent and work gets lost in a few seconds of content.

The daily thing is a bit much.
I like it, I think the process and end result were cool, but god damn.
This is why I have Ad-Block and PVR shit. Repetitive and annoying advertisements.

That's the thing: I get what they're doing with showing the behind the scenes stuff and letting those of us who nerd out on this shit nerd out on it, but my god, they really are starting to approach the "producer's twice removed grand child" level.

That. That right there
is
the point. It could have been done with software. It could have been done with the
ACTUAL car
that they used to film the zoetrope.
Why do anything? Art is for the sake of art. This was doing something for the sake of doing it.

My thoughts exactly. Cool end-product, cool process, glad to see the work behind it (more than the end-product, honestly)...the first 3 or 4 times. God damn.

Each one is rephrased, and tackles a different perspective of the making of an advertisement which should appeal to us as a target audience. You see the ads on the other sites? They actually just repost the SAME ad. Ray/Andrew are working this and each time it's back it's different, it's NOT the same sponsored post, it's all promoting Forza 5, and well, last I checked about half of Oppo and a decent percentage of the FP plays Forza.
And for the record, if I made an ad that took a similarly insane approach, I would be screaming about it from the hills for a LONG time afterward, because I'd be proud of it. I understand that much... it was a crazy approach to an ad, and the talent, product, tools and approach all appeal to the average Jalop.
Again, remember it's this or seeing the same Forza ad. I'll take Q&A sessions with the talent any day.

I still haven't seen the "final result," if there even is one yet. I have no interest in teaser "making of..." videos unless the actual product is going to be super awesome.
