got the engine back into the suby, and it wasn't even a wrestling match! Things lined up, bolts tightened smoothly. All set for a likely test fire and drive late this afternoon! Pretty stoked I gotta tell ya
(umm, yeah, my project not pictured above)

you know, I had a tremediously terrible no good very bad day yesterday too, I was cranky, traffic sucked, I arrived at work fuming, work sucked, and then I got home and the kids took too long getting buckled in, and were whiny and blah blah blah.
so I put on a movie for the kids and went to the garage. The kids ditched the movie and came to ride scooters around me, and all was well with the world. The kids even had fights, and falls, and general nonsense on their scooters, there was crying and screaming and it was all ok. It really was EXCELLENT therapy!
And then I had some terrible supermarket sushi for dinner...

I thought I was a hero getting mine back in, until I went to start it and the car was running like crap. Forgot to hook up the knock sensor! There's lots of stuff under there, and it's an easy one to miss.

Learned a valuable lesson when we installed a rebuilt engine in ours. I turned the engine the wrong way to align the flexplate holes. Started it up and it ran like shit. Turns out if you turn it opposite of regular, it slacks the timing belt and it can jump a tooth.

good info, I know I turned the engine to align the trans shaft into the clutch plate... sure hope I turned it the right way, or that timing belt slacking isn't an issue on the EJ22 :S

AHAHA, this was my weekend: first short bio-I have been involved in the VAG scene in spirit for +5 years, 10 months ago I made my first car purchase, a beautifully maintained B5 S4 Avant. Before that I drove a an 03 camry xle (short for fake leatther & heated seats) my parents gave me when I started college, the wifey drives that now.
so H2O was this passed weekend, I went naturally since I finally felt a part of the community. Packed all my tools spare misc. parts etc. my dad laughed when he saw the trunk....little did he know....Left thursday night (from nyc).
Next morning on the way to breakfast the car starts to overheat...the drive was no longer then 10 min. FML. And that was that...spent the whole weekend(Friday to Sunday evening) trying to get the car running again so I could drive her home. Needless to say I had to have her towed since we didn't get her running, if we had the parts we would have been golden.
The silver lining here is thanks to a fellow audi guru that was in the area I got all the on-site-hands-on practice that I, a humble accountant, went from never having pulled the bumper(a joke for B5 guys cause everything involves pulling the bumper/front end off) to being able to perform a full timing belt job in less the 72 hours. Tuesday evening she was up and running like nothing ever happened.
I kept my cool the whole time else It could have been a really bad time, very important else things get fucked up when you're frustrated. What made it bearable was; my wife has learned not to ask me if its broken, and just ask how she can help, since I had plenty of hands helping she didnt get her hands dirty so her task was to called everyone and their mama chasing down parts (a bit of a turn on IMO), I made some great new friends and became closer to the ones who I went with, and I learned to wrench the shit out of that bitch.
Pic for funny.

This is genius! Move the air filter under the hood scoop and put in a FMIC. Why doesn't anybody make an aftermarket kit for this?

plenty do, I know the GC in teh USA never had a TMIC and had jsut a blockoff plate for the scoop, plenty of "CAI" systems are designed to sit right beneath the scoop. Alternatively, there are two vents that are also blocked off, some "CAI" systems position themselves directly beneath these.
the issue here is that this is a great way to get a wet filter. In rally you might not care, but in daily driving its not ideal.
