Isn't it called the Mirage?
![]() 10/02/2013 at 21:54 |

While the Mirage is also a delta wing aircraft, it is a fighter and not a heavy bomber.

Oh. I used to be huge aviation geek, and probably would have known it. Those days have since passed.

Yep, it's an Royal Air Force Avro (Hawker Siddeley) Vulcan.

Crazy nice shot of it, and treetop level with that amount of bank in a plane that big requires rather large testicles.
Probably taken here in Canada at the range in Labrador where NATO practices. Nobody around* to complain about big jets flying 10 feet off the deck.
* Actually, there are a few people around, but only a tiny handful, and the Federal & Provincial governments involved have long had no fucks to give.

I was going to say if you didn't know that plane and had never seen Thunderball, you aren't a man... hehe

Holy shit, that's an awesome shot.

To be fair, I just looked at that shape yesterday evening. While the intakes at the front are cleverly hidden here, the engines are a giveaway imho.
It also looks moderately small here. ;)

The Vulcan did see actual action in the Falklands. Great story too with all those refills: http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/Operat…

I sat together with my brother and his neighbour, yesterday; the neighbour's a Brit and army retiree. From what he told me, the Vulcan was about the only plane able to rock this kind of mission back that.
He's also an avid fan of the many C-130 itereations and the A10. :D

Can't see anything. Is it camouflaged?

These were really cool to watch in the pattern when they were based at Offutt AFB in Omaha.
