I don't know if this is related to the shutdown or not, but I crashed my car today and a department of transportation truck pulled up alongside me, saw that I could not push the car out of the ditch myself and drove off while I was walking to his car to ask for help. could clearly see chains and a jack in his truck bed. I was speechless.

Honestly, I haven't noticed fuck-all as far as the government being shut down. Why is it ever turned on? The shittiest thing I've heard so far is some people are working w/o pay and national parks are closed. But... Somehow it costs what? 80 million dollars a day for it to be shut down?????

But that's not a joke about the Westminster parliamentary system :(

State/local governments shouldn't be affected by the federal shutdown in the least; guy was just an asshole.

The only reason all the parks are closed is because they issued an order to shut them down. It's all theater. The parks especially. Most are fully funded for the year and staffed by volunteers as well as salary staff. They just wanted to make sure there was a major effect to the shut down so people noticed... otherwise no one may even ask for them to come back.

All air traffic controllers currently working are doing so voluntarily without pay. Let that sink in for a second...

Okay, dammit. I have seen several jokes over the past few days about this magical IT Crowd show. Never heard of it.

BBC show? Did I just completely miss a states-side series? WHAT IS IT. WHERE DOES IT COME FROM.

The man in the image I posted is Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He has the power to dissolve parliament and hold an election (turning the government off and on again) if he reaches an impasse.

Hello, this is Johnathan. I apologize for the inconvenience and I will help you get your government back up and running again as quickly as possible.

So is the postal service I believe.

The assholes that shut the government down are still getting paid.

And all this because of a law, that became LAW in 2009, in the words of Jon Stewart: "It's a fucking law".

When I break the law I go to jail, I can't see I am shutting down and therefore it doesn't apply to me. Those assholes should all go to jail, for paying themselves while fellow government works suffer. Furthermore this is costing something like $80 million a day.
