Which is interesting, because they really didn't have to - on a gravel road like that, even my lowly pushrod 2.0 powered 505 will spin the rears if i ask it to.
or is that smoke out the pipe, because blown turbo?

nah that would likely be a cracked head or bad head gasket. Never blew a turbo on any of my turbeaux's

Maine and I still have a turbo 505 wagon, slushbox. Been keeping the eyes out for another SW8 but they are not the easiest to find these days. I grew up near Reynolds garage in Old Lyme, CT, so I have had a few to say the least

That's excellent, very happy to hear. They are pretty hard to find outside France (and i am quite a long way from France), but of course even rarer in the States, so i'm happy to hear that you still have one.
I drove a Turbo, i think it was a '85, definitely before '86, because original dash, in Sochaux at a Peugeot museum event for journalists, so it was in perfect shape. I loved that car, but to be honest i dare not to buy such an old turbo, so i wanted an STI - in Europe this designation means the 2.2 injection motor, or 2.0 if before 1982. I have a 2.2 pulled from a goner chassis, but the car i have is a 1986 2.0, maybe GR, or so - no power steering, and only 97 HP from the carb 2.0 . It is slow, and the steering needs a lot of turning to get from lock to lock, but i love it, and will install the 2.2 down the road. First i want to get through the chassis and brake upgrade, because everything needs to be redone. However it's not completely bog-standard, as the previous owner got some interesting options aboard: it has front fog lights (built into the main beam housing) and a factory LSD, though it's not in at the moment, will build in again, when we redo the back axle. And blue velvet seats from a Turbo... and a completely rat body.

cool yeah I also have a 504 diesel break with an auto that is the slowest thing on the road. I have an XD3T motor with a 4 speed to slap in at some point. 2.0 was a great motor though! Looks good to me!
