Today, I decide to visit a local Mercedes dealer in my hometown, for a routine 6-month check-up for my S-Class. And then, when I wait for my car being checked, I decide to grab a brochure of W212 E-Class for wasting my boredom. Suddenly, a sales person ask me "sir, would you like to get a W212 today?"
And then I ask him, "well, how much?". He said if I opt for a very base model of that thing, the E200 CGI with manual tranny, I could get an insane 50% discount.
So, the MSRP of that E200 is 50 thousand bucks here in Indonesia. With that discount, I can steal it for 25k. If I include my W140 in the trade, I could grab it for...
17,550 USD.
Which is, in Indonesia, 17,550 USD is about the same as the honda Fit.
Same goes with the W211, they also put 50% discount on them. Bringing the base model W211, S300, to an agreeable 50k.
They say this massive discount is because they have a fleet of unsold base model of E-Class, E-Class wagon, E-Class coupe and the S-Class. Plus the merc have new styling this year, and they should get rid of old models.
Should I buy one?

If you can actually get one for around $17,000 then yes you should go for it.

Ya. Been thinking that as well.
Especially they have a White, Diesel-Stickshift E-Class Wagon. A unicorn.

No, probably all S-Class is Automatic. But they do have Manual E-Class.

Is there a way you can get an E-Class while still keeping your W140?

Wouldn't it be disappointing to switch from a loaded S-class with a 400hp-V12 to a stripper E-class with a 184hp 4-cyl?
Think of all the features you'd lose, I bet leather / heated power seats wouldn't be on the base W-212, and neither would sunroof and lots of other goodies. Plus the V12 -> L4 drop would probably hurt. And in addition you switch from a car that represented the top of what could be done to a sales rep car.
On the other hand, it IS a screaming deal. And if you want better fuel economy or safety it might be worth a try, especially if you can add a few options.

Wait, what? So what's with your avatar and user name then? (Not that I have a problem with it either way)

Well, that means I have to pay them 25k.
*or maybe I could bring it a little bit lower, since me, my father, and my grandfather is always buy mercs from them.

Well, in here, if you add an option, any option, you'll sacrifice that manual.
But honestly, the one that stuck in my mind is the White E250 Diesel Wagon with a Stick. That's the most jalop mercedes ever!
Or the slightly used W221 S600, that use to be the car that sitting all day long in the showroom.

The 250 CDI is impressive but I'm really not in that whole diesel thing, especially when there a interesting petrol alternatives.. Though it is probably a fantastic MPV. Speed, manual, good fuel economy, good hauling possibilities, etc.
S600 W221? Now we're talking! How much to they want for this one?

Fully Loaded S600 W221. Made in 2010, Only sitting in the showroom as a show car for the customer, originally offered for 300k, now they only ask 105k.
That's one of the last three W221 there. The other two was a very base S300 with RSE package.

Wait, the E200 you mention, is it a Coupe or a sedan? I like the coupe...

All E-Class coupe in here is V8.
That's why nobody bought them. They think the V8 only able to suck petrols.
I want one.

Funny, we get the same engines as the sedan here

Well, in here the biggest one is the E300. Then it jumps all the way to E63.
But I like the coupe better.

Yeah me too. Though in your case a new coupe with a V8 means a completely different budget.
Speaking of V8, I'd really love a R129 SL 500..
